Water in space between battery and air intake pillar

Hi guys. I noticed water splashes on top of the battery and the interior outboard of the battery below the pillar with the air vent. Is this normal? Where should the water actually be going?

Yes this is quite a common failing of having the plastic air vents on the rear pillars.

There is no pukka cure, however there is a comment in the Wiki section about this.

The author's cure was to fit a cable tie around the bottom two slats, with the tail of the cable tie hanging down the exterior of the pillar.

I hope that makes sense.

the plaggy vent makes little difference. water always goes in here..., the thing with the cable tie was to stop the drip drip sound when trying to sleep, it dont effect all vans though
and where does the water go... it sort of hangs about a bit well a lot of years and then it rots stuff then i get to fix it :rofl

I am sure it wouldn't be mega-hard to fabricate a thin black plastic panel which could be installed behind the vent to divert the water away with a central orifice to allow the flow of air in the normal manner.

A nice piece of 1mm thick ABS or polyprop...
ABS is easier to fold / form.

I am a long way off reaching this point on my van.
95% of the rest of the van to sort first. (mm style :-P )
