MOT Brake efficiency

Put my camper in for its first MOT in 5 years the other day and it came back with a fail on brakes.
It said Nearside and offside rear brake application uneven
here is the brake test report
What is an acceptable pass?
The garage were going to rip me off and said i needed all new brakes, calipers, pads, all new brake flexis and pipes. On looking at the front brakes they are brand new, just fuzzed up with being left for 5 years. And as it has no MOT or tax i can't drive it round to loosen them up. Think i'll strip and clean to start with.
Can anyone advise me on the best solution?

30% imbalance maximum. You've got 38%.

Definitely start with taking the drums off and seeing what's going on. Since it's been sat five years, you've got to give it a change of fluid to start with, and very likely a good clean and lube of all the rear brake pivots etc.

That sounds like a plan, i'll get my lube out pronto and grease me bits up.
Haven't even touched the rear drums yet so i'll whip them off tonight and have a look.

My van had 450 kgf on the fronts. The highest the tester had seen!

Yup, just clean out, sand up, and lube the pivots..check brake cables are free and that will do it...rears don't have calipers so dunno how they would sell you those!

Nice one cheers, yeah i meant pistons for the back. Are the back drums supposed to have one securing bolt to hold the drums on or are they held in place purely by the wheel? Mine doesn't appear to have any bolts holding the drum on. :/

There was a securing bolt, but it's not really necessary. Has somebody shoved aftermarket alloys on at some stage? They can foul on the securing bolt, I gather.

No aftermarket alloys no, its got the dual piston early type discs on the front.
Is there another way of removing the drums other than how it says in the manual?

I used the guide in the Wiki when I did mine last month.

Definitely not happy with the garage suggesting that I need all new brakes as the back ones look fine as well. grrr
Considering they quoted me £725 just for labour and £600 for brake parts just to get it through the MOT I wonder who else they're trying to rip off? That wasn't including any of the other MOT work they quoted.

Thankfully i'm doing all the work myself.

Rubbers on the pistons are still er rubbery and not perished. Just needs a good clean up and lube the bits/pivots

No lip or signs of bad wear on the drums
