Changing gearbox oil

Hi all
Gearbox has started jumping out of gear in fourth when driving, but would like to change oil to see if this helps before I decide to go down the full rebuild route.

Not done this before, therefore pls could someone tell me what oil I need to get and how much I need? It's 4 speed gearbox on a 1.9 TD (alt engine)

Also, I can see the plug for draining but can't seem to find where to fill from - any advice on that would also be great

Many thanks - I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely sunny weekend

Ben

Hi Ben, I'm sure someone will be along shortly with details, but here's some info on the wiki for you in the meantime:

Cheers 300 - I did have a look at that before having a crawl around under the van. Couldn't make out a plug in the position which seems to be indicated in the photo. I did spot a nut which looks the same as the drain plug, but seems to be lower down, about half way up side of gearbox towards the front end- could this be it? Didn't make sense to me as surely it would need to be at the top to fill up from?

Filler plug uses same socket as drain plug and will be halfway up box approx. As gearbox isn't filled to top but takes somewhere around 4.5 if I remember correctly. Fill until oil runs out of filler/level plug.

as mentioned before, always undo filler plug first ! just incase the worst happens and you cant get it undone, at least the van is still mobile. Good luck.
