Exhaust stud & the class 1 bodger

Help please!
I am in the process of replacing the silencer that was badly holed and noticed that there was a nut missing from the top of the rear LHS manifold (not sure what port number but it seems the worst to get access to!)
Ah....I thought that needs a new gasket and new nut fitted...well I went to put on a nice shiny nut on and the stud was loose, so loose that within a few seconds it came out.
the stud was only in about 3mm and it would appear there there is something left in the manifold and some bodging tw@t had just put the remainder of the stud back in
Is there a fix for this that a limited diyer can attempt or is it proper serious.
What would be the implications of just using 1 bolt, Its gonna blow from the gasket for sure.
Any advice appreciated
