Hello! I'm new and I've got a dodgy indicator.

Hello one and all. I've been perusing this fine forum for a while now and thought I'd finally pipe up and say hello.
I'm the proud owner of Hugo a 1991 Autosleeper Trident who is in pretty good condition with an lpg conversion to boot.
I did the slightly loony thing of buying him on Ebay and flying up to Edinburgh from Gatwick to collect and driving back home to Brighton.
Well the gamble paid off and the two day drive home was smooth and silky and he has driven very well ever since.
Having had nothing go wrong so far my non-existant technical skills have not been put to the test. But just recently a front indicator light failed (not a catastrophe I know)
I figured it was just the bulb as all three others are OK, hazards work and we get the fast flashing thing when indicating left.
Changing the bulb however has made no difference. Compared to the one one the other side the connectors behind the bulb and the bit where the bulb sits look kind of corroded like when a battery has leaked.
Could this be the cause? If so how should I clean them? Any advice would be gratefully received.
And for your entertainment here's a clip of Hugo in action filmed using a suction mount for the camera. Enjoy.

My name's Simon by the way. :D

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
You are pretty much onto your problem I think, it can only be either the bulb ( swap the "new" bulb with one out of the working indicator the other side to prove the bulb, even new ones don't work sometimes) , the holder or the wiring and then once you are sure you have a working bulb clean the corrosion up on the connections , if that don't cure it, seek out the earth connection to the body and clean that up too .

It's a learning curve , but you will sort it !

Hello - if you have a multimeter(voltmeter) you could probe the wiring to the bulb holder to make sure it is getting 12volts and that the ground is good.
A piccy of the offending area might be interesting (enlightening) but, yes, just try to clean it up with anything abrasive (i.e. wire brush, wire wool, even sandpaper) until you get to some nice shiny metal on the contacts.

BTW - loved the video (how sad are we!); I assume that was your 'camera face' as most of us seem to drive around with silly grins on our faces!

Many thanks I'll try giving it a scrub and will report back.
Yes I do look a bit of a moody git don't I. Had a stinking cold that day but was determined to get out and play with my two favorite toys (van and camera).

Seems to have worked a treat :D
A quick scrub with some sandpaper and it's right as rain. I'm guessing not all problems I encounter will be this easily solved.

You will be able to make a great slideshow video of your van with all the photos you have got and will have.
You could use I am the resurrection by The Stone Roses for the music ;-)
