Here goes my rebuild thread!!, Ive owned my camper around 5 years but the last 2-3 years its sat on the drive without moving awaiting its turn for a rebuild. Its a 1981 westfalia LHD camper. Ive been into vws for 10yrs owning buggys and beetles ( still got the buggy, going turboed this winter !!). Ive been collecting parts for it for a couple of years, I had a panel van i scrapped some years back but i kept everything under floor ie all steering geometry hubs/discs, tank. basically everything under the van !! i had it all shot blasted and powder coated, bought all new bearings and powerflex bushes. theres loads of welding to do !!but thats not a problem as i used to be a welder fabricator years back and love mucking about with this sort of thing .

so the plan is;-

1/ To have it finished by July 2013 for the Silverstone F1 as ive bought the tickets !!, if its not the wife will do evil horrible things to me as we will be in a tent field and all our friends will be in the caravan/ camper field !!.

2/ get the underside sand blasted and sprayed with epoxy mastic, and get the the underside rebuilt so i can move it around on wheels instead of dollys !!

3/ get all body work repaired, preped and sprayed in epoxy 421.

4/ refit loom and refurb the AAZ engine ready to fit.

The above i want to try and get done by April

dont get under vehicles to weld any more fed up getting burnt !!

Best of luck, I had nowhere near This amount of work to do and got seriously doomed at times! It's all worth it in the end tho.

Well that's one way to do the underside like it, look forward to seeing more .
