Can someone point me in the right direction to wire in a buzzer as per disco Dave's suggestion in the Wiki. Where's a good place to tap into these connections?

I think you can take the + feed for the "lights on" from behind the heater controls (yes there should be a light behind there!) the positive from the ignition switch, get your meter and test what is live when the van is running and changes to ground when it's not,

I wouldn't cut into my ignition switch wires tbh, theres enough problems associated with ignition problems and adding a kludgy cut in could cause problems down the line with the van not starting. If you must splice in there do it either with crimped terminals or soldered and heat shrinked connections.

I spliced into a wire behind the heater blower panel (one that fed the illumination bulb) and a wire on the ignition behind the steering cowling. Can't remember which wires but the buzzer comes on when I turn off the key when the lights are still on. Any other method is pointless if you have a van where you can walkthrough into the rear as you don't always open your cab door when parking/camping

actually the 99 /292 relay method outlined on the wiki for post 86 vans is by far the neatest solution.

So I have bought a 292 buzzer relay, put it into the slot 7 of my 1986 van as described in the wiki and nothing happened.
How can I test the relay and if it is fine where to look for faults? I had some problems with the wiring. Wires kept burning, so now i dont have parking lights operated with indicator stalk when the ignition is turned off. Other than that all the lights work fine.

Yep, no light there right now, but was planning to put some LEDs in behind most of the instruments. Can't see owt in the dark!

This also only works if you have the 99 wiper relay fitted

do you have a 99 relay?

In that Wiki post the relay is fitted to slot nr7, which is for the fog light relay .Does it work with the fog lights?

I can only go by my (late fusebox) van but the relay in slot 7 is not fitted unless you have front fogs fitted. If not fitted, the rear fog will be fed from the 'M' connection at the back of the fusebox rather than the B20 connection shown on the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual thus (VW) avoiding the (cost of a) relay, and leaving position 7 'free'.

With it 'free' I presume you can plug in the 292 relay, swap your 19 for a 99 relay and away you go as suggested in the wiki.
I say "presume" as I have not done this since I have installed front fogs and the position is being used as per VW and the Haynes wiring diagram - to control the fog lights (front and rear).

So found the blue striped light cable, now just an ignition lead and I'm sorted
