Quite scary seeing this stuff happen to your van though isnt it! Even more scary how much mud has been removed from inside the sills and other body cavities, 3 inches deep in places!!!

hey Al I think i can see some nastiness on the small return folds at the back end of the slider runner section in the photo (usually behind the removable panel) - mine has a bit here - looks like yours drops down behind the body panel as well? any chance of some pics of the repair (if theres anything to repair as my eyes are on the way out) cheers

You certainly can, its not repaired yet. I picked up some bits to repair it with over the weekend. I'll take, some pics for you as it gets rebuilt.

That section in particular was much more rotten than it seemed on the surface!

Al, is that rear corner grafted in yet mate?

Hope it goes a bit easier than taking that spare one off my old bus! Lol

Not in there yet, think that'll begin tomorrow..... Fingers crossed in goes in easier, that was quite an ordeal huh!

Too true, amazing how these buses are put together! Hope all the bodywork goes well mate.

Yep, the first set of Arizona pinstriping after an all-in bodywork and paint sesh is a moment I do not relish doing again. (but I will of course!)

Just noticed the Same on mine as I'm currently in the process of doing the seams and addressing whatever rot dents etc will post up some pics when I'm down home again

Looks like fairly complex area , with several panels coming together . I think al has a body cut to let in? I'd like to see inside as I don't like surprises. Hoping mike will take me under his wing again

Jes, here's a pic of the exploratory hole we cut to see how bad it was inside. The section cut out was a mess anyway, so didn't matter that we cut it out.
Gives an idea of how far that rot can spread unoticed.

Here's a pic of what it looked like before it went in. Obviously doesn't look pretty, but was also hiding just how far the rot had crept behind the panel.

Seems like the bit between the seam and the fuel filler is a real problem area for Syncro's. Not sure if its because they cant get in there to seal the seams or whether the wax treatment just cant get in that small gap between. Either way its worth keeping an eye on. Ive ended up cutting the whole corner off another van to sort it out.

This rot area coupled with a few dings, some areas of filler, the fact that CJ reversed it into a tree the day before it bought it and that it has had a wheel carrier bolted through it has all culminated in it not being worth trying to save it. A new panel was the only logical step forward really.
