rear hub removal

Hi i need to remove the rear hubs on my t25 to gain access to change the brake shoes . do i need a special type of puller or will one like this do the job? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clarke-Qualit ... 3183362017" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not sure wether that 'cone' bit will fit over the end of the shaft. anyone used one?

It should just pull off with your hands after you take the crown nut off but is it worth the hassle

I just did this job. Google Jed the spread video on rear bearing and you can watch him do this swap on YouTube. No special tools needed but plenty of careful prep, the right tools and patience. Should not take too long but expect some stuck bolts etc. worth using plus gas on bolts for a few days before. Good luck

err you dont need the hubs off if your doing shoes/cyc's etc, just the brake drum to remove

MM is on the button- do you need to remove hub for any additoonal reason like replacing a rusty back plate etc?When i did mine recently i replaced bearings, back plate, brake pipes and pipe locating thingy on the swing arm. All well worth the effort.

Remove wheel.

Remove the two 11mm bolts that hold the drum on (between the wheel studs).

Slacken-off the handbrake cables.

Wind the adjusters in (you'll need a mirror, access from the rear of the brake).

Pull the drum off.

WHS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ pretty worrying when you see advice saying undo the hub nut to access brake shoes!!!!

Don't undo the hub nuts....just take off the drums as described above.

Replacing the shoes is a hell of a lot easier and quicker with the hub removed.

thanks.. i know shoes can be replaced just by removing drum but read it made life easier to remove the hub ( i guess access to springs less fiddly ) one side backplate is pretty rotten and bent so shoes have worn unevenly so i have 2 new ones and will need to remove hubs now anyway.

Also drum feels pretty slack and still will not pull off even with big hammer?

The adjuster is the cogged wheel accessed through this hole in the backplate, using a screwdriver turn the adjust upwards both sides to release the brakes you will feel resistance and a click that's OK.


It's a lot easier if you buy or make the correct tool.
