Sorry to be a pain but there's a green doka on ebay claiming to be a 1700 jx with a trick turbo.

Can you rebore a 1600 jx to 1700? Or maybe a ky (1700) could be turbo'd without destroying it ?

Just wondered :?

Good question ..... I suppose you can turbo a 1.7 but never heard of it been done.

That doka was done up for a bit of profit and likely to be a bit of a bodge job I reckon

The big problem would be keeping the pistons cool [no oil squirters to cool the pistons!!]

hello, i am the owner of that green doka - and no it was not done for a profit and a bit of a botch job - as i have been rebuilding cars for over 20 years and show winning cars as well! I bought the pick up with the intention of keeping it in my collection - but change of business has changed the original plan!

it was a mistake on my part the engine is a 1600 JX not a 1700.

Fairly sure 1.7D KY does in actual fact have oil squirters.

Shame the driver's door is the wrong shade of green and the rear bumper end caps are missing! I have been restoring vw's for more than 40 years and it' s the fine details that makes all the difference.

I'm on my second career at the age of 40, and now find myself as an apprentice (to my mate) in a bodyshop that does majority of work on T3/t25s.

My boss/mate would beat the living snot out of me if i didnt mask the horn off and got it covered in overspray or forgot to fit it up properly and miss the bungs out of the front bumper end caps.(or indeed put the passenger side wiper arm on the spindle pi$$ed)

Fortunately we covered masking/bagging up and fitting up in first week of my career and i have never made that mistake. My masking should be proper ace in 20 years time with asll that experience i would have gained.

I think i learnt about colour matching years back when i bought my first house and had to match soft furnishings to paint so fortunately i understood the importance before i had even walked into the paintshop.

I'm not being OCD then ?? PHEW!! I did notice the horn but I'd have slopped a tad of tyre black on it

I know I'm an old fart but these 2 pack paints just look way too shiny and cover up all sorts of nastiness :?:

Of course Simon's right, the 1700 KY is (so I've been told many times), well under-rated...

Turbo'ed they are pretty impressive, I've driven one, at Mammut Park 25Y Syncro

'twas Heimi's, Henning's Syncro Treffen right-hand man. He rolled it first time out at the Mammut Treffen
