Hi i have a 2.1 Vanagon (petrol), just recently fitted a second hand head unit mine had frozen whilst driving the other day the speedo started squealing so i took it out and ran oil down speedo cable and sprayed a bit of wd40 around base of unit squealing stopped. But when i took it out after oil light came on , i stopped and checked level ok carried on driving and light flickered on and off for about 20 mins then went off now when i turn the ignition on it go's straight out before starter engages. Can anyone Please Help :?: Cheers Chris

What is a "head unit" - do you mean the instrument cluster ? And what do you mean by "frozen" ? :shock:

Whilst it is VERY likely this is just an electrical connection problem, driving with the oil light on is just plain daft my friend !

As mentioned, as you sound like you have had the instrument cluster off (or replaced it, slight confusion re that in your post ;) ) then it is either a simple bad connection (flickering oil light) or if a different instrument cluster than your original one, a fault in the oil warning circuit. Suggest you read up on it at = https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Al ... and_causes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

p.s. = I am not sure folks, do all 2.1's have the full "BOD" or do some (early ones) just have a light and no buzzer ?

Let us know if you need more assistance or how you get on if you manage to sort it :ok
