Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet
Starting to think that a full twin cooler setup and more ducted air will be necessary. If the owner/builder of this beautifully engineered 996 turbo Westy is prepared to put some holes in the body to make it work, then I should be prepared to do the same

A quick look at that Jag matrix shows it has more than double the overall surface area of your Mocal unit. If you look back I did make an assumption on the increased performance using water/glycol. How much horsepower is the V8 capable of in comparison?

E D I T The first gen 4.0 S/C V8 was more like 370PS at 6100rpm, 500Nm at 3600.

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet
Sod it. This needs a convector in each D post, twin pumps and the oil cooler will have to move house along with the air filter housing. There is loads of wasted volume over the transaxle in a 2wd, if I have to cut the floor for a UN1 anyway then whats a bit more ductwork under the rear bench?

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet
A quick look at ebay reveals digital manometers for under 30 quid, which is a lot cheaper than cutting a hole in the light panel and having to repair it, if it doesnt work.
I seem to recall a thread on the samba where someone did a similar experiment?

Holes already cut and ducted to rear panel here one side has a 19 row oil cooler the other has an intercooler from a Mitsubishi l200, not got round to closing off from the engine bay yet.
Got my father's funeral on the 16th so give me a couple of weeks to compose myself and then i will get a meter and play around with it to see if i can get some meaningful readings.

Thanks. No rush, just having a bit of a brainstorm on it.
Sorry to hear about your loss, I work with my father. All the best.

Christopher Schimke T3 Technique Feb. 2010 chart on pressure differentials. Air volume as you were planning is more useful for calculation purposes.

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet
Of course. More thinking that an appreciable pressure differential might indicate that ducting from the lower D post & out next to the rear light would make worthwhile air flow gains.
I am exploring all the options, tbh the complete Jag chargecooler setup with long hoses to the front is starting to look like the most effective solution, both for good airflow and coolant volume.
There is no value in moving one system just to relocate another.
The bus has a spacesaver spare at present (that could hide elswhere) and I was going to undertray the whole floor anyway, duct the front radiator outflow into the front arches etc.
Whether I can make good use of the volume above the transaxle is another matter, I dont want to be pulling hot air/leaves/gravel off the tarmac and flinging it into a heat exchanger that is relatively inaccessable...

This particular bit of data is a missing bit of the T3 engine-swap jigsaw. Top marks for zooming in on it.

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet
I never cease to be amazed at how people shy away from a simple bit of imperical work before commiting to materials.
Things very rarely behave as expected (or hoped for)
I bet that the airflow measured in a syncro will be different from a 2wd, because of the fuel tank
