The foundry and the patternmakers are always busy, but if I can wave something under their noses thay can give an idea of costs.
As for the Audi trans route, it will involve developing an offset and reversed cwp set, like matey out in OZ has done for the Subaru trans. Transaxle casing mods will certainly be necessary, possibly even remaking one of the bearing carriers.
I like the idea of keeping it all VAG. The VR6 (or Audi V6) when fitted into a syncro means you still have a decent departure angle, unlike with a 5-pot.
But in a syncro there's the small matter of adapting the locking diff to fit the Audi quattro trans (won't be easy).
Matching diff ratios to the front syncro locking diff can be specified when getting the cwp sets made.
It will be a long project.

When it's for a vehicle originally designed in the mid-1970's, it's all a bit irrelevant

i may be wrong but is the transmishon tunle (where the gear stick comes throught the floor) from a deisle van not a petrol? looks like it too me, on my doka (petrol) it is flat.
