Were in. We were going to use a ferry port further north like Newcastle or Rosyth as were coming from Glasgow, but the price difference and the allure of travelling with the group was too great, especially as this will be my first floury of driving on the wrong side and all the fun that will bring.

PC52, we’ll probably meet you at the service around Dover for an overnight. Our little one will be two by then so our travelling time is limited by her naps and general mood (like planning to taking two days to get from Glasgow to Dover, Lol).

Patrick, thanks for posting your motorhome facts link as I had no idea what a stellplatz really was.

Having spent all that time getting to Germany, were going to take a further week to have a tour around, it’s a 1,700 mile round trip just to Mammut Park and back.

Just a little heads up for those who want to over night near Dover. This place is a relly good one to free camp at and has been kind of accepted as an English Aire by the europeans waiting for ferry's and we have stayed here ourselves. Its right on the edge of the white cliffs, http://www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/ken ... s-2-a.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Its quite a big area, trust me you will find room, especially at the time of year we will be going. There is a nice little bay down the road with a pub on the seafront too :mrgreen:

Unfortunately we wont be doing this one, hope to be doing a Sardinia 3 week trip this summer, and just cant do a big trip twice. The lure of hot sandy beaches for the rest of the family is too much to resist. Two day drive down to Livorno in Italy, ferry to Corsica for a week, hop over to Sardinia, and then after a week back to Livorno and back over the Alps.

I know it's a bit early but has any one planed on staying any where on rounte? Just a bit bored at the moment and trying to sort out the trip route with some places to stay. We are leaving acouple of hours after everyone else and will try and catch up with every one. If that dose not mean driving like a loon across France and belgum.

In Germany they have camping facilities similiar to those in France - Stellplatz, Sharon has done a bit of a look but nothing more than that. Here is a vast amount of them somebody has kindly plotted on google maps!
stellplatz
Rates are very reasonable. Sharon is a bit busy at the mo what with it being the wrong side of Christmas, maybe she will have a look over the Christmas break.
