Could be, but I told myself tdi if the head needs to come off. I'll get it tested and sell on if it's ok, it had only done 80 tho when I bought it

Just trying to be of service

force of habit from doing aid work more well meaning vultures than magpies, personally I blame watching the wombles as a kid, besides you know it'll go to a good home and it'll be lovingly cared for reincarnated, tuned and possibly blown up

I'll be getting the van back march sometime I reckon. The only suspect thing on it will be the head, which I'll get tested. I just told myself, if the head comes off its a new engine. The box was already booked in for tdi ratios for the end of feb, so it kinda makes sense to not spend out more on the AAZ.

1st choice is AFN then AHU, would also look at a 1Z if it was low mileage.
Was going to ask you soon, how you got yours? sure you told me, but i have no memory! How did you manage to get the loom, ecu, maf, sensors ect? because i know you didnt buy the whole car.
I'm on the look out for a galaxy/sharan/alawhatever as they are meant to have the most convenient engine mounts, but they seem to be a lot more money than the equivalent golf, passat

I got to meet (virtually not physically) a fella who breaks Passats, he can basically send you everything thats under the bonnet on a pallet for an extra £50. The cars he does have arnt the lowest milage cars but they have been serviced and maintained, and I dont believe any of the scrap car dealers that say the engines have 70,000 and you just have their honorable word for that. If you want an AFN fitted with the AFN manifold its going to need some custom built stuff like engine bars, custom exhaust etc and if you want the battery keeping in the back that is going to need custom attention. You will need a upgraded clutch and a modified fly wheel from a 1z Golf, and your OK for a charge and oil cooler. If you want to run the AFN belt set up with the advantage of the much bugger alternator you would have to keep the power steering pump going so a reservoir of power steering fluid would have to be set up on some kind of loop I suppose or custom fit your pump to that engine (more money).
The tricky bit is the loom, you need to take a loom out of the car (it can take hours) and trust someone to do a good job of custom changing it and the ECU will need re mapping or the immobilizer chip that is in the cars key put into the loom so it can start using your key. This is something I didnt want in my loom so the ECU went off for re mapping and he immobilizer done away with so I can fit my own that I can manipulate to my advantage

.
As far as engines go I was told to find a Passat or an Audi A4 (some of the others have different mounting points?), I found the Audi Redeye/Redline or sumfink to have the AFN engine but they are quite hi spec and you dont see to many of the engines around compared to the Passat, but on a good note the ones you see can have 280,000 miles on them and still going so if you can find a Passat engine with 130,000 or less you should be rockin
If you go for the 1Z or the AHU there seem to be more of them around with lower miles for less.
Thats how I understand it anyway

This is why im paying someone to do it for me
Already have power steering so should be no problem on that front, and im happy to keep the immobiliser, i'll leave it all in Dave's hands really. i dont know enough to say i want this, this and this. I'm sure i'll end up with a AHU/1Z, as you say AFN's are a bit more. But with my ratio's 110bhp is probably not needed, but i am waiting to hear back from a breaker with a complete AFN passat with a broken clutch, so could be good timing there.

The differences between an AHU and AFN are turbo, injectors and fuel pump. Mine is an AHU but with the appropriate bits changed.

Hi Tom, Does the AHU have the same manifold as the AFN?

Don't know. I Googled it a while ago and there was no mention of the manifold being different.
