I have a friendly foundry in Sussex who are second to none - they were comissioned by VW / Audi to remanufacture the crankcase for the Auto Union V16. I can go in there weekly during school term times. They have a superb pattern makers and patterns would probably be needed as the shrinkage will cause problems, if working off an original. You get 1:75 shrinkgage on aluminium castings.
We could do the machining here and could remake the bracing bar too. Who's up for it?

If people want 'em, let's make 'em. Good for diesel conversions too

and V6 swaps too?
They won't be any cheaper than importing from SA, but will be Made in England from correctly heat treated LM25 alloy and you won't have to worry about parts going missing or getting stung for import duties.
We could also add some stiffening to the bellhousing too to improve it's strength, if we have our own patterns made.
Then there's the timing cover/front engine mount, the crossmember, exhaust system for 2wd or syncro...

Yea seen that one, and coughed!.
I think that would should see what can be acomplished here in the uk, if someone is willing to donate their bellhousing to the cause. Maybe even go as far as making a plug and play loom for a v6 tdi?

That price is just plain ridiculous. I have never paid more than £100 for a SA bellhousing and as little as £40.00. Stuart sells them for about £100 plus postage. Still less than £200 with duties ETC.

It's all well and good getting a SA bellhousing and bolting it to your R5 or V6 of choice but the 094 trans will go pop. The SA gearcasing is different for a reason and at the limit for a respectable service life at 100kW and 200 Nm (the 2.6 rated output)
Yes people are putting a lot more through them but they won't last any length of time. A certain Legacy GTB engined truck springs to mind...
I reckon the way forward for more than 4 (VAG made) cylinders is to re-engineer Audi transaxles for rear-engined application

which I have started to investigate.
We're well off topic here, aren't we?
