just to clear up some confusion myself and jp77 (Jeff) are neighbors so we chat or talk on the phone and then carry on chatting on here.
To be honest he's done most of the conversion. :ok

Which alternator have you got? May well be the rectifier pack is shot. I had a load of aggro tracking down a "round plug" one for my early 2.2 then found this lot:
"the alternator starter motor co" on ebay. Brand new Valeo £110 on the doorstep.
Check my really old posts.

Hi
I've got the plug that has two spade pins and is shaped like a capital "D".
i have one pin connected to the pos post and the other goes all the way to the battery check light on the dash.
I do not know for 100% if the alternator was working in the donor car.
ive got a mate with a wrecked 1.8 scooby i'll nick his alternator and try it!!!!

Alternator is now wired up. Many thanks to Richard Jones and the boys at TSR racing who both helped to solve this issue.
I basically wired my charge light wire to the wrong bulb in the dash. easily done.

So the beast is finally up and running and ready to go to some shows. :ok

Just been for the first test run :D
Took it easy, kept it below 100!
The gearbox is holding it back at the moment.
The last job before the MOT is building a raised engine cover/lid.

Its very very fast and has wastegate chatter :ok

You'll be fitting a Legacy gearbox with reverse cwp before you know it  Choice of diff ratios - EJ22 has 3.9 or 3.7, Impreza 4.1 or 4.4 (last one wrx and no better than DJ diff) and up to handling the power...
Then you'll need a re-marked speedo

the 2.5 outback at the lockup has 3.7 diff with i'm led to believe a lsd in it :ok

 shame that the slipper is in the rear diff and it won't fit the transaxle  I can't use the legacy trans as the dual range spool will foul the reversed cwp  it's got to be an Impreza one

finished the engine box last night. It's mainly made of MDF with foam inserts to act as sound deadening I also managed to get hold of some aluminium speed tape so the whole box is draped in it. there is a hole cut out for the intercooler to breath.
went in for the MOT today only failed on steering column with excessive play.
gonna run it back through tomorrow fingers crossed
