I have been following this with interest and it is great to see this done properly and explained well so other people can have a go.
I needed to remove the timing gear from the end of a crank and i bought this from Ebay to try it out.

It cost me £15 including the postage and i thought it was worth a try. The item arrived and it was fairly weighty and seemed solid

It worked really well but you did also need to support the main body of it whilst winding it out as Itchy mentions earlier with his. As also mentioned heat is your friend.
Just another option for people to try.

Sykes pickavant sell a multitude of legs for their pullers especially for tasks like this - far from cheap though but the hydraulic action is far more 'comfortable' when components are tight as opposed to winding the thread. However, at £15 yours will take some beating.

Hello,
Just my 1€ worth..
Find a 'disposable' (probably) 8 mm 1/4 " drive socket..
Drop this in the end of the crank..
Gives you better leverage 'cos the thread is shorter..
and protects the thread for the pulley..

While I was waiting for DJ pistons I have just acquired this 1.9 DG engine which has a blown compression seal, symptoms are a blown hose and now constant bubbles into the cooling system.

A big thanks to Hoopy_Frood ( Iain) for selling me a DJ piston
Brickwerks are out of stock and kolbenschmidt have told them they are NLA, this means VW Classic is the only source.
So Now I have a set, all weighed without gudgeons which are all predictably the same at 140G
Also big thanks to Andrew at Campershack for his excellent advice

That engine in your slideshow - you know, the one with no pushrod tube guards...get those oil cooler pipes swapped for stainless! It draws the eye and spoils the effect somewhat, like a pretty girl with a bogey hanging out.
