Just thought I would put my thoughts in black and white.
I have got a 2.0 Aircooled which currently struggles to get abouve 50mph. Even if I am on a flat motorway stretch it sits just on 50 and wont go a bean more unless there is wind behind me and the road slopes down. Now, it never used to be like it but I had a sticky pin on the carb (original solex) which I took apart, cleaned and put back together. Although solving the problem it never regained its full power and that it down to a crossed thread between the two halves of the carb.
Next week it goes in to have new shiny weber carbs fitted, tuned and the timing checked.
Everyone seems to have different opinions on carbs.....price vs performance vs webers vs dellortos vs empi vs original solexs......I have heard it all.
In the end it should come down to what you want vs what you can afford. If your old carbs are broken like mine or indeed Sternal, then any set is in improvment.
P.S They are not the single weber conversion if thats what the "oh no not webers" were for.....

He won't listen, but there again the way he keeps this bubbling away, I don't think he even owns a van. A troll methinks and a time waster to boot!
back in the day, when it was all fields round here, I suggested you take it to a rolling road and find out just what is wrong with it. that option still applies and would no doubt have paid for its self by now

in total its cost me just under £90 and a few hours of my time (not including this forum) to find out zero, that's with 3 specialist mechanics all supposedly experts and only one of them charged me (bent me over a barrel-beetlemania)
I'm not sure what else you guys would have suggested...?
I'm happy to use one of you guys if any of you are within 60 miles of London then great let me know...
ffs listen to what's been said and get it to a ROLLING ROAD then!!
its driven under load to simulate actual road use and can be monitored whilst doing so, any "specialist" cant do this as its stationary whilst he tinkers.....
