Went back down to the dock and found the discarded essential bit!
Oooh the suspense, excitement and drama of it all.

in case its ruined, Brickwerks did say they could get some if they ordered them..

And here it is getting tapped back into the hub gently.



And the van is all back together and ready for its MOT now

And its passed!
Its been a long time off the road and a lot of work and money,
we are ready to take off in it for a break.

I ruined the other steering bellows where it attaches to the rack,
luckily didnt spot that on the retest
something to watch out for:
While messing around swinging the hubs left and right
the rubber got caught unusually, a bit twisted, and went into the rack,
chewed, but another one has arrived and will fit that now.

Just realised ...one more thing,
the passenger electric window hasnt worked in ages
so better get that done doublequick,
bit of a let down..

Nice one Tim and well done on sticking at it. As you say, its been a long haul. I'll know where to come for Syncro front suspension advice now!

it wasnt so much a question of sticking at it but more like being stuck with it,
nothing to do but keep piling time and money into something,
when its been so long I can barely remember driving it.
Always fires the passion though when the motor roars into life,
and really sweet now it snicks through the gears.
Then there is no doubt it was all worth it.

Will be really glad when its been to Futbus and got the RJES exhaust on,
and the idle speed, and the powersteering whine sorted.
Sure there will be another challenge coming, a CV or something,
but surely the worst id over now.
Engine, gearbox, chassis, brakes, ball joints.

There is also the underbody protection and waterproofing to think of.
And the spare under the front.

Did anyone notice the link that was posted up for the big brakes,
but it showed someone fitting their big wheels under the front,
as I sized it up to do but havent modified it for yet..

Picked up the Syncaru from Futbus today,
people in VW busses are waving to me again!
had almost forgotten what that was like..

Been too long off the road again.

The RJES exhaust is just the job,
and Dave has done a really good job of the brackets,
which had to be carefully thought out.
