wouldnt of thought so mate - I would suspect its because the case halves are not together..

speaking of rebuilding your lump I gotta take my spare apart as summat aint right with it - think I might have nipped the main bearings :oops: (yes that old chestnut all vw engine builders do at least once!)

I think now its cos its a new bearing...when i put the old half in it doesnt rock!

BTW whats "nipped the main bearing"?

there are studs that the bearings locate on, I am suspecting I have one of the bearings not lined up with the stud/hole; when the case halves are bolted up the stud makes it's own hole in the soft bearing shell but distorts the bearing in the process so when you re-align the bearing onto the stud correctly it's mis-shapen hence the termed 'nipped' (as in just pinched) :wink:
