Won't advance in power to revs

There are actually quite a few long established members on here who are based not too far away from you if you take a look at their signatures.
As its such a helpful and friendly club,it might be worth you while dropping some of them a PM and asking if they can assist in exchange for some beer or whatever

Hope I'm doing this right. I moved the HT leads around in the correct position. Then according to Haynes if I move the flywheel until the notch on it is where it is below the rotor arm should be pointing at number 1 HT lead. But looking at this picture you can see it's pointing at number 4

But If I were to put the leads back in the "wrong position" HT lead 1 would be in the correct position.

assuming the above pic is taken with the notch on TDC (looks like it from the pic) then you can see when compared to your pic on page 2 that it is indeed pointing approximately at No1
As I said above there were two dizzy fitted to DG's so just because mine does not look like yours may not be an issue.

I had Dazco come and take a look at my van today. Thank you for coming round pal was good to see you We compared dizzy's and they indeed different but both point at 1 at TDC but in different directions. I guess I've got a special one Anyway we changed all 4 spark plugs and put the HT leads so its firing cylinder 1 at TDC (the wrong way) and it fired up beautifully!

However on the test run I still have lack of power and it won't advance in power to the revs. Basically I'm back to the original problem But this time I have more smoke coming out the back! I'm assuming if I keep running it it will kill the plugs again!

Looking at the plugs it looks like oil is getting past the rings???

Its hard to tell whether those plugs are sooted up or oiled up by looking at the picture.
Before you start worrying about oil and rings, its a good time to check your carburation now that you seem to have got it sparking OK.
Rich mixture, fuel dumpimng from the carb, or choke stuck on would all foul your plugs up.
As would getting oil past the rings.
But it makes sense to check the carb first.
I am no carb expert, so I cant help you on how to check it.
There are a few on here who are good at carbs.
They will help I'm sure.

Ok thanks I'll get the old carb cleaned up. Done it before but worried about the new Gasure pipe work but should be ok. It's a bit different now with the hesitation. When the revs climb and it lacks power but then all of a suddorn at like just before you change up a gear it takes off with power but when you in the next gear the powers gone again till the revs are up there again. It's a bit like when you select the wrong gear in a diesel car and the revs climb slowly until it gets the turbo and whooosh.

The plugs were oily as oppose to sooty.

sounds like you have a "flat spot ".
Which, is quite often carb related.
What carb do you have ?
Do you know how to set it up ?

Only saying because Pieberg carbs are complicated ( compared to some other makes ) and it's sometimes easy to make things worse if you're not careful.

What colour smoke? Black smoke =rich mixture. White(ish) smoke=oil or a new Pope.
