all in all I guess I have no choice....if you disagree Speak now, or forever hold your peace!
Well either gravity is stronger in London or the air is thicker.
My van is a high top, fully campered out, with a full water tank, two mountain bikes on the back, a weeks worth of beach toys, + me & the girlfriend and +65mph on the speedo isn't a problem.
But if you can learn to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Then there's nothing wrong with taking the A & B roads to get where you want to go.
Guy's my 1.9 DF does 80 on the speedo - This is not the true speed as vefified by Tom Tom Or Garmin - Speedo reads progressively further out the higher it gets
If the van is doing a true 55/56 it will keep up with all the 38 ton lorries on the road anyway (Just)
Also - I came back from Scotland 60 on the speedo (True 50 MPH) all he way - Arrived after 300 mile trip relaxed and ready to party
As its said on here Put the money in the tank and enjoy the summer - In the fall we can have another go at this!
1983 Hi-Top Autohomes Kamper T25 1.9DF Early Cooling 4 speed - Running on LPG - BLOS Carb
I don't want to sell it really but its probably for the best I need that extra grunt !
Problem its proved reliable and buying another one could just be a terrible mistake as it could be riddled with problems and going through all fault finding doesn't interest me one bit its tiring and stressful, I know some of you are saying just use it for the summer etc...but selling in Sept or Oct is the worse time to sell as is buying one in the summer when prices are inflated !
We take it you enjoy the van otherwise you would be looking at swapping for newer camper.
Best bet in your situation (for you) is to trade it in with one of the boy's that deal in these vans and get yourself a Subaru / GTI powered van
You already know - which layout you prefer etc
This thread has had so many views and no resolution THAT all the guy's /gals that have viewed will not be interested in viewing / buying unless at a seriously reduced rate due to suspected engine problems
Personally - I would tap up Sarran (He loves these engines) - Have a trip over to France - Get the motor "changed out" (another americanism) - drink some wine - Drive back to UK at 60 MPH
I just re-read PT1 of this and it appears that "Campershack" offered to check it over - It might be advisable to take them up on there offer

Oh no. What did you have to say that for? He'd nearly, finally made a decision and you go and make that suggestion. This message stream could run for years.

got any evidence for this, some people think its an urban myth
Just thought I would put my thoughts in black and white.
I have got a 2.0 Aircooled which currently struggles to get abouve 50mph. Even if I am on a flat motorway stretch it sits just on 50 and wont go a bean more unless there is wind behind me and the road slopes down. Now, it never used to be like it but I had a sticky pin on the carb (original solex) which I took apart, cleaned and put back together. Although solving the problem it never regained its full power and that it down to a crossed thread between the two halves of the carb.
Next week it goes in to have new shiny weber carbs fitted, tuned and the timing checked.
