Have spotted some brighter weather coming up over the weekend..do you think i'll get away with doing the one coat for now? I'm not a particularly fussy person so not bothered if she's not perfect but would like to change her from yellow to purple asap!
Can I go back at a later date to flat it?
Also, was there somewhere near to my that i can go and buy it in person? I live near Portsmouth and am sure someone mentioned Southampton? Obviously, if theres a nearer one then that wud be grand

joined to to say i have the codes to match vw alpine white l90e
ask the mixer to make up 9016 traffic white then add the toners for 9002 grey white into the same tin that makes a perfect match for the alpine white , good enough to do a rustoleum panel against an original one
ive been playing tiding up our old polo, just done the sills and valence etc ...i used a really nice paint brush and got decent results , i kept a tin of spirit nearby and dunked the brush for the final strokes and got it to flow well
has anyone any input on trying differant solvents? something that evaporates faster would aid in the first coats
maybe celly thinners , acetone or ive even heard talk of petrol (yes really)
oh and for any east anglia members kent and blaxhill builders merchants sell it , they have several brances over east anglia
Not sure a faster evaporation is a good idea. The paint needs time to level. Its generally unworkable after 3-4 mins, air dry in 15 minutes, just about touchable in an hour, and drivable in 2.
White spirit isn't the same as cellulose thinners and could well alter the paint - if it'd work at all. Rustoleum do stock their own thinners though - that may make a difference. Cellulose thinners stink too!
would be intresting to experimant on some scrap pieces ...never know till you try
ive got tescos white spirit and some genuine turpentine, the turpentine seems to give a better flow and more gloss alothough its like £3 for a 250ml bottle vs cheap for the tescos gear
I think you'd be safe with those although as you say, they can work out expensive. I imagine that paraffin is in the same bracket - lol.
I DEFINATELY wouldn't want to be using petrol though. I need hardly remind anyone the real hazards using some solvents anyway, but petrol might just be pushing your luck. Thing to bear in mind is that whilst flammable, white spirit is 'fairly' safe if used sensibly and its nowhere near as volatile as petrol. Turpentine I believe is more 'oily' which might account for the extra shine, but we're drifting into chemistry to a large extent here and different solvents could have detrimental effects on the properties of the paint over time. It might pay to dig around online for the spec sheet.
Would never use cellulose again. Used to airbrush bike tanks with that stuff and it took MONTHS to get my sense of smell back.
the way im thinking , if you left a jar of thinners, white spirit , terps etc etc after a few days or weeks depending on what is it the jar would be empty with very little residue left in bottom
so whatever you use its thinning the paint and evaporates eventualy, its just some are faster than others , i see on some other forums certain brands of spirit work better than others
i think rustoleum is pretty stable , nothing seems to faze it much goes over almost any ratty old paint/prep and doesnt frazzle up etc etc , youd have to do something really stupid to louse it up
hi all, i was desperate to change colour from light blue to dark blue.....
thick first coat to cover.....BAD IDEA, have now covered mostly with second thin coat, but terrible runny finish.....Will flatten back in spring....sure to recover ???????????????
