Re: Rear CV replacement
Thanks. I'm building up the courage to go outside again and get on with putting everything back together.

Re: Rear CV replacement
Nearly there. Two bolts (outer CV joint) and one big driveshaft nut to tighten up. Tomorrow is another day.

Thanks to all who have given advice and support so far.

Re: Rear CV replacement
Not wishing to tempt fate, but it looks like the new CV joints and wheel bearings have solved not just the unpleasant rattle but a host of other problems. There used to be an obvious resonance when climbing gently in 2nd gear which has gone. The van itself seems a lot quieter, a droning sound that I had originally put down to the AAZ TD in the back, has gone too. The van also suffered from a sort of wobbling vibration and a squeak, which would appear together sometimes. I thought the squeak was from the front brakes pads not releasing properly, but had no idea about the wobble. After a 30km test drive this afternoon all that remains to do is to check that the CV joint bolts are still torqued up correctly. Thanks once again to all who offered advice.
