Yes those are the ones I have ordered. I'm a bit worried about the height compared to using type 3 short ones, but we will see how they pan out. The jetting for the 40's is talked about on the Samba.com, it should give a rough guide before it is set up properly on the dyno. When it is I shall report back on sizes.
Oh and sorry for all the apologising.

Cleaning the heads up and I have found cracks between the 3 lots of the valves. Not huge but definitely there. I've seen threads on here where they talk about cracking between valves on diesel heads, but does anyone know if this means the heads should be looked at a bit more closely?
In the pic you can see in the top right the level of pitting and can even make out the crack I think (Click on it for a bigger version).

Can't see any cracks
the pitting is what I said JB weld or a proper fix
it's up to you

I think cracks between the valves are quite common and not unexpected, from what i hear aslong as they arent too bad it shouldnt matter.
Mine have some cracks between the valves and i will be using them.

cracking tween the valve seats is normal , hairline cracking anyway from what i have seen and experienced......
just one thing i would look out for , the waterways in the head, look and make sure they are not pin holed into the combustion chamber
easily missed, and give the same symptoms as head gasket/water jacket failure - pressurising of coolant sys and coolant in exhaust gasses/induction

Just a couple of updates.
Have most parts now, including a lot of the cooling system. I'm looking for the right place for the head work, thinking about ceramic coating head faces, piston crowns and exhaust headers. Anyone had experience of this?
I'm looking at the CSP ratio rockers (1:1.25) which are straight replacements for the originals, anyone had experience with these as well? Any problems with installing/setting them up, or running them?
Flywheel lightening. Is it worth it? Anyone done it and got an opinion?
All answers gratefully received
I just worked out how much I have spent on the van already including initial purchase, and it is not something I recommend you do. Stay happy in ignorance. If I think about the future cost of the Westfalia style pop top and the nearly grands worth of wheels and tyres I want, I begin to wish I had a coke habit instead.

How hard it it going to be driven?
Personally I wouldnt bother with the ceramic coating.. of heads and pistons etc.. Exhaust is a different thing.. what zorst you using?
Ratio rockers are ok.. (dont know about the CSP ones) but what cam are you using.. sticking with hydro lifters? or solids or type1 style? there are some factors to consider in there... NEED to make sure rocker geometry is correct when fitting whick means cut to length pushrods..
Flywheel.. if cruising and smoothness are your game then leave stock.. worth having the flywheel crank and pully balanced though (along with rods and pistons)

Stick with standard wheels & tyres and avoid Coke ... it rots your teeth, even the Diet stuff

As much as I hate answering posts by breaking down with quotes, here I go:

Not too hard, more thinking of it helping with reliability and cutting down on the heat in the engine bay. Not sure about the exhaust, i haven't found a supplier of performance exhausts for the WBX yet, if anyone had a link to one it would be good.

Was going to stick to a stock cam, but only because I haven't found anywhere that does performance cams for these. Again if someone had some info please pass it on. Can you use type 1 cams perhaps? I knew about the pushrods, hopefully wouldn't be too difficult a job for the better performance of the ratio rockers. I was hoping someone might have some info on this, which I could put in the Wiki when I've found it out.
Flywheel.. if cruising and smoothness are your game then leave stock.. worth having the flywheel crank and pully balanced though (along with rods and pistons)
Yep, going to do all that. I guess cruising is the ultimate purpose, but I've had some peaky cars in the past and lived with it OK. If someone had lightened one and knows what it is like then that would be good to hear.

Good for cleaning stuff though, like burnt cooking pans

Interesting thread

(though only of academic interest in my case

)
@ Moki, that "pin hole" damage thing is thing is interesting too - I wonder how many folks have been caught out with that.

cb performance do a couple of cams for hydo folowers, you can use any beetle cam but you will have to use solid followers, or you could have your own reprofiled, i think thats the best bet as the drive wheel will match the case. the boxershop or vw speedshop for the pipes.
