Good stuff. Copy and paste the "img" tag from photobucket to here and away you go.

Don't feel embarrased. We all started from scatch at some point, it's the only way to learn. TBH looking back at some of the work I've done in the past makes me cringe, but if I had a few pointers along the way back then it would have saved me loads of time trying to make a bad job look good. :ok

Right today has been a right pain in the ...... I cut my rear quater section off before the guy in London who's been suppying me with panel chops sent me the quater section. Needless to say he didn't cut it where I thought he would, so i've been messing around fabricating a section for the void. Pictures explain all ;)

Still been a good day (i enjoy it really) just being British and moaning. Yep angle piece made and welded in, but it's one of those you know you're gonna be messing around with filler for hours / days getting the contours right. All that sanding, I've been there before, I like the idea of using original metal where possible, but half of me thinks swallow the cost and buy a new rear quater. Actually I'll keep that idea as a backup.

Oh, Id stick with what youve got, think along the lines of ,,its all original but there is bad rot where the missing bit is and fix acordingly and of course moan, in fact bemoan plenty and blame the deaf fool that cut it off in the wrong place cos he wasnt listening, moan at yourself a bit for trusting a broom handle to do as instructed, otherwise its looking good innit.

Looking good. :ok

They say a picture paints a thousands words, this is like a bible, wish I saw something like this before I done mine. Would of done it a bit better but then my skills aren't as good as yours and I have no workshop.

Your doing a fine job. Keep it up. :D

I am in awe of these skills, I really ought to learn to stick bits of metal together one day.

Thanks for the kind words. I was lucky and spent my first seven years of work welding staircases together. But anyone can do it, it's just time and practice, plus I reckon if anyone in the trade saw my work they'd probably have some pointers for me......

Anyhow no pictures for a few days as i've got some real work (payed) to do. P

Ok so this is what i've been doing for the last week or two....

Image

It looks like I just offered this up and it fits (the bottom corner), not a chance, this was a complete butcher, re-chop make fit part
Image
Lots of welding here....
Image
Urghhhhh I had to pretty much build this from scratch
Image
Image
Well I took the engine out. My only dealing with engines before this is A series mini engines. What's all this business with liners?
Image
Guddgion pins! This is how I got them out. There's no tool available, so I made one.
Image
Ready for new piston rings
Image
New rings fitted
Image
Right getting the guddion pins back in was nothing less than a complete "pooh"! If you want some pointers on any of this pm me, getting them out, putting them back in me etc... ignore the numbers, they probably don't bare refferance to what they should, but the numbers work for me

Where you a butcher in a previouse life :rofl ruff sod! well at least you got the pins out, best bit of a read Ive had all week,
welding looking ok, what was up with the lower rear 1/4 panal to warrant such contour enhancement? looks to fit to me :D got a picky of the gap where the guy cut it off wrong as he misheard/understood your instruction, and how you gonna weld the front edge of the wing on,
did you undo the welds that hold the centre(fridge) panal on or what, curiouse as its always nice to see how other folk tackle this.
looking good though and at least you have good metal to weld to which is a bonus
cheers mike

There is no way those pins would have come out any other way, they were so tight. Getting them back in is just as much fun. The little corner panel was so out line, it touched at the back where it joins the rear valance, but to the wing it had about a 10mm gap on the horizontal and then ran out about 10mm on the vertical. I cut both the flanges off, cut the panel to shape and welded the flanges back on. I cheat with the fridge end of the wing, I’ll take some pics on Monday to explain. Don’t think I have any pics of the rear quarter before I welded it on, but again I’ll take some more photos Monday so you can see how I fabricated the corner. P

Good stuff, keep em coming. Have got any pictures of how you joined the arch above the wheel (tub) to the rear wing? Mine were rotten through and previously lodged. Would like to to how an expert tackled it.
:ok

I've just noticed you're nearish to me, ill give you a wave next time I'm in blighty.

I like the use of the word "expert" thanks ;)

There is no other way I know of than making up a patch to fit between the new arch and the inner arch. Hopefully the picture bellow will help, i've just tacked this in place so far. The new arch will just be spotted to stop it distorting to much and I'll seam weld to the existing inner arch

Always up for a wave. I do the trek from Brighton to Eastbourne down the A27 quite a lot.

I used a short arch from a. schofields and joined that to the wing, then removed the excess metal I didn't need. My metal forming and patience isn't as good as yours.

Thats looking good, are you telling me the 1/4 panal as bought was that bad? thats worrying, whos was it. will lokk forward to the picks as they all help and give ideas.
cyrus, I fastened this to my wing , no need to seam weld , tacks are good enough and brush some good seam sealer over the join on both sides
