Got bored with painting so headed down the garsge. Will start a new thread when l properly start rip fown. For now l took flywheel off, removed seal and pull out three shims. Two out of thee knackered. One bevelled and second lipped on outer edges.
Note wear marks on crank end bearing surface. Not a healthy start

Early case, early main bearing with integral thrust, four divots is normal and part of the bearing.
Knackered shims is normal too with lots of end float.

give it a good clean before splitting it.
try to do it later and more likely to get dirt inside
takes a good couple of hours to get it clean enough.
