To update this...
Caught the train to Cardiff today, got my new alternator £150, (there is a surcharge of £50 but... I had to swap the pulleys over) No worries I thought, I can drive there tomorrow
Got home, undid the old pulley easy enough, but couldnt get the other one off... Balls. Quick walk up the road and got the garage to do it, cost me a 4 pack.
So put the new alternator on... here we go. Started her up... Light still there..12.5v. FFS
So it wasnt the alternator after all, though I have a nice 65a one now. Things to make me feel better.
So looking around I found THIS!!!

Cant believe it... and I dont have any ring connectors.
Quick question is it a 8mm ring connector I need??

do I need to heat shrink it?? One final question, whilst looking around down there (its bloody auckward to get to) the spade connector to the starter collapsed in my hand.

Do I need to buy a female spade?? or is it housed inside.
