Re: 1981 T25 1900 Keeps breaking down. (still! Help)
You could always call The AA/RAC out. They'll do all the fault finding for you. They are well trained in the electrical side of things. I'm only saying this as I know how frustrating fault finding can be. It's more rewarding doing it yourself, I know...but let's get you moving first and worry about that later

There are two types of leads and distributor capJonnysidewways wrote:quick stupid q. I ordered a dizzy cap, difficult as the chassis number on the van and reg is for a 1600, and it arrived, but I can not fit my ignition leads to it, as the leads have the peg in them? if that makes sense, should I buy new leads? or if there a different type of dizzy cap I need?
cheers
John
Blade type and pin type
You just have to match them to the coil.

If you have a GSF near you just pop in and ask for a 1980's VW transporter cap with pins.

Re: 1981 T25 1900 Keeps breaking down. (still! Help)
My van had exactly the same symptoms as you, cutting out randomly, then either starting again soon after, or not starting and having to be towed, only to start first thing the next morning. Sometimes it would run for 200 miles no problem, then cut out, then start again, then cut out five minutes later, then no problems for ages. Drove me mental.
I wasted ages changing all the ignition parts except the one that I eventually worked out was causing the problem - the Hall sender unit inside the distributor. The fact that you can make the engine cut out by wiggling the loom plugged into the distributor is an indication that you may have the same problem.

Thanks.
That was the last thing I was going to try, as in replacing the distributer. I saw this on http://www.justkampers.com/vw-t25-parts ... -1992.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Hall Sender VW T25 1979–1992 - JK Part Number: J10729 OEM Part Number: 034-998-065 I assume this wold fit my dissy.

You do know about breakers I presume so you must have missed North west VW when you searched for one.
