Which ones the idle valve. The one furthest the front of the van. The bigger round one of the 2? I tried pulling off with ignition on and I could here it operating. I hadn't actually considered fan as it's running lean according to the analyser so that's probably worth a check anyway. I'm going to check the timing with distributor next week and go from there. What is the idle enriched supposed to do. If it's open circuit would that mean it's operating all the time or not at all. Can you replace them? Do you think it's worth getting another set of carbs. Setting them up to standard and buy a rebuild kit. Then I can fit them and see how it goes and if that messes things up completely I can always put mine back on which I know works allbeit not perfect but does work. So as I have the idle stabilisation unit already bypassed I set timing slightly different as described in previous post is that right?

Re: Carbs
Idle valve is the one to the front of the van, IIRC.
Yes, timing can only be checked accurately with the Idle Stabiliser bypassed.
The Idle enricher...er...enriches the idle mixture! Sorry... I think it's acting to put more fuel into the idle circuit when on warmup, and then cuts that off. When I get some time next week I will try the spare one I have out and see what it does - I know that the one I have passes air (liquid in situ) when it's cold, so I'd imagine that it closes that off as it warms up. But I'll know for sure next week.
I wouldn't buy another set of carbs, I'd fix the ones you have - you may be getting another bucket of problems by getting another set - yours, you at least know where you stand with them. They're not a mega complex carb, so I think with some methodical fault-finding the problem will become apparent. If it's anything like mine, it will be because people have just messed things about and a couple of minor issues that needed fixing and then it's all good.

Re: Carbs
Hello again. I have used the van a few times now and since plugging up my massively obvious vacum leak it's not overheating and running a lot better. But on my last journey It was running rubbish from word go and once upto temp it refused to run on idle. I was going on holiday that evening so haven't investigated and got back today and just went out to start it as we're hopefully going away for the weekend in it and it still won't run on idle at all now. I haven't even investigated yet but does anyone know what the idle enrichment valve definitely does and what resistance I should have on it. It was measuring open circuit when I tested it. Does it do as djaychela says and enriches on warmup? And if so could that be cauding it to run lean? What's everyone's thoughts. Should I rebuild the carbs back to factory settings and go from there or is possibly something to do with the enrichment valve?

Re: Carbs
Ok so I'm running again. And in the process I have now found that the idle solenoid wire has failed on the connector and I can't seem to get a spade connector to push on anything on the inside. It's like the male connection inside the unit has fell off or burnt off. I can't feel anything inside it at all. Can I take it off. It looks like a nut at the end of it which I presume will undo but didn't want to try without asking first. Can you get replacement ones anywhere? So the idle solenoid valve is definitely open circuit and so is my idle enrichment. Where should I go from here?
Thank you for all input so far.

Is this the idle solenoid valve?

Or this one from gsf? I think I need to take mine off to compare. When you screw it back in should I wrap ptfe around it or anything?

Re: Carbs
Sorry, been on holiday... I think that's the idle solenoid (not home until Tuesday so can't be 100% ) and without it it will not idle.
When I get some time I'm going to write a lot of this up (with resistances, functional tests, etc) and get it on the wiki...

Re: Carbs
Hi all. I was running really well for a while. But in the way home the other day as soon as we left camp site It was really sluggish. Top speed was about 50mph. Just had no go at all. When I got about 5 mins from home it started stalling when the engine speed dropped. We had to rush out to a party that evening when we got home and then a few days after I went out and started it. It won't run on idle at all and when you increase revs it backfires out of right hand carb. Is this a air leak somewhere causing this? Or timing? Any thoughts?
