Because Aiden is so busy I've been looking around. I was laughed at by these http://www.blackdiamond-ltd.co.uk. " Sorry but we only do ones that are on the road". What a needle head the bloke was. I mentioned that there's 1000's of us on the road and he didn't quite get it.

Re: no idea
I have and it looks promising. They said I could change the bellhousing so that mine fits. Mine has the hole for the starter dead central on the housing. Whereas some of those which look like they'd fit have the starter hole slightly to the left on the housing.
I'm on page 22 of mr Google. I'm a little confused coz this
http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/v ... -167530825
looks exactly like what I've got but mines a 5 speed. What is the difference? As you can see the starter hole is central on this one.

Bell ends are interchangeable but never done it myself. You need to find what box code yours is then compare on this website....
http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/VehicleSpec ... fo/gbx.htm
Once you know the code you can look for a box similar to your old one. Look down the list for your engine and make a note of the gearboxes that are suitable for that engine. Mine was the later version of the 5 speed petrol (ABN) and I've fitted an early 5 speed (8E)
Have you tried Ebay and searched for "T25 breaking"

BlackDiamond are in Warrington, about 7 years ago they bought in a big batch of bearings for our gearbox, then work on them dropped off, so they started selling the bearings on ebay so I went and saw them and for the next couple of years bought all the bearings off them, they gave me their stash of broken boxes for our van and that's why they don't do them any more, any that come in they send to me, they've not got the stash of parts and besides they do 70 a week of the modern front wheel drive ones, cars and vans, nowadays

Re: no idea
Hate to sound like a "cock" here ladies and gents but I had 10 t25 gearboxes......all I wanted was 1 good 5speed for my daily van. I'm not stupid mechanically and being a typical greedy northerner I thought it can't be that hard il build myself a good one. Several broken gears, circlips and god knows what else later (bearing in mind i also had vag dealer books to hand specifying gearboxes)I put my name on the waiting list sat back and waited for the only person I'd heard of to build me a good strong RELIABLE box......4 months later I ended up with a corker.
Now then Mr Talbot please correct me if I've missed anything out and thanks for the problem free motoring!
Don't call him the gearbox guru for nothing!
Good luck getting the van back on the road soon

Re: no idea
Changed my gearbox yesterday. Got one off ebay for £150. Phoned round loads of breakers and was quoted £350 on average for box's that thy didn't know so i found someone who was breaking there own van. I have no machanical experiance at all but did it via the Haynes manual and managed quite well and only took 2 1/2 hours.Very basic tool box only need a 17 mm spanner, 13 mm socket, and 12 point allen key thingies from memory. I used a friends ramp. I would not want to do this job on the floor but I know it is possible. Like the other boys have said it is all down to the angle of the dangle!
If in doubt give it a clout!

Re: no idea
now your just making me jealous. Oh you'd laugh at a couple of farmers who do local gearboxes. One of them looked inside the nose case and suggested we might be able to liquid metal the smashed bit. "oh it might be orrite.....be about £150 .......anyway my dad'll have a look later ok?"
I chuckled to myself. I have the widest range of quotes and offers one can imagine. Onwards.........
PS I can't wait as long as others. It belongs on the road not on ramps.

Re: no idea
Fingers crossed, I've found an enthusiast here on Anglesey. Worked on T25's for 20 years and has a 4 speed box ready to go on. Can't believe my luck. Should be on the road within a fortnight (he works nights so timing is a bit iffy). Any advise about the difference welcome.

Re: no idea
Box back on today. Same with new linkage, stick and my bellhousing. Replaced 5 speed input shaft for 4 speed one. All lined up nicely till I said "I think it's in". Took about an hour in all. Linkage an hour too. Had a bit of trouble aligning linkage and stick but with two people it's not so bad. He's not satisfied with the drive shaft bolts so will be back in the moring to tighten them. Allen key, torque bit just not gripping inside enough. Special grips required apparently. Old clutch hose gone, new one to be ordered tomorrow.(any link to correct one appreciated. It's the one at the back, from the slave to the metal pipes underneath. Various options for sale) Turned over first time in 5 weeks so happy bunny here. Cost so far.......£200
