Hi Josh I used about 5% yellow in to the white, PM me ur details and I will send you some yellow if you want to try I have loads left.

ok first coat on! Here's some pics of the before and after!
Unfortunately, I found alot more dodgy bodywork and filler than I thought I had...
so spent most of today doing yet more sanding....




Well, think that sums up the rubbish that we found. Getting better with filler, but not yet what I would term good. Made the decision at 5pm that I probably wouldn't get it any better....so, CovKid, I did my best!
so, on with the first coat! Talk about bubbles....PANIC, but overolled a bit, then left (prayers offered) and its gone on real well. I can't get over the shine. It looks pi$$ poor at the moment, but it is going on over blue, and I am a girlie!! (although hubby has been helping all day!)

and finally.....MAKE SURE THE SAFETY EQUIPMENT MATCHES THE COLOUR OF THE VAN!!!! Harryman did say it sounded loud, so I thought ear defenders were necessary....

I am really lucky.....Mum and Dad have an industrial size garage....with a huge roller door that the van can get in and out of with space to spare! Their cars sat out in the rain, while the van got the treatment. Really want to try some flatting back tomorrow!!

My partner thinks im nutz cuz im the one who allways wants to knock walls down and take engines apart i luv it!!!
Granted i can be a girly girl but im a bit of a tom boy and can do most thingz guyz can(i the things i cant i wouldnt want to

Anyway back to the van em it looks fab soo luv the colour its a shame that car makers dont have as many fun colours noo more,the last colour i saw with any sence of fun on a new vw was fantasia green on a lupo

i havnt got a t25 yet i soo want one though but hopefully we will get one very soon? Until then ill just sit quietly take notes and hopefully i can paint our van with rustoleum too when we get it

I can see the issue with opacity that you mentioned but by third coat you should be seeing some denseness to it. It may not be dry enough for flatting back yet. As I mentioned in WIKI, it stays soft underneath the external skin where paint is thicker. I managed two coats before I flatted back but if you do use wet and dry - make sure its wet or you'll rip/burn the paint you've put on.
I'd get at least two layers on then let it dry for a week, flat and get a third coat on. Most people are surprised by the shine, and for the record, women are generally very good at this kind of work, partly because their brains are so much better at multitasking, and because they like things 'just right'. I'm saying this because I was a college lecturer (different subject) for a few years and the lasses always stuck the course and turned out better work as well as being more enthusiastic. The orange head gear is living proof.

Isn't the roller handle rather long though?
Oh and any comments on roller pressure? We maintain that weight of the roller is what you need. Excess pressure just creates lines everywhere but keep it light, work quickly and the finish is quite astounding.
You should find Em that by the time you've done a panel, you become quite an expert. Keep taking the pics as I'm putting them in the WIKI where I can.

Well actually, its a yes and no answer. Quite often the final coat (if previous coats were dealt with properly) will be fine as it is. I've only really mentioned it for the purists looking for a factory finish on a shoestring. Personally I'm quite happy with the final coat as it is but i had lots of questions at the time as to whether it was possible to get a flawless mirror finish. It is, if you don't mind using elbow grease.
The reality is that we're all driving relatively old vehicles and the original paint has been marred by life in general so even an 'as is' rustoleum finish is still a whole lot better than what was there before and as a guy who worked for Land Rover told me, the public will accept what is acceptable and mirror finish paint jobs are, by and large, a bygone age, even on new vehicles. Most modern car paint finishes are actually orange peely as hell if you look close and amazingly. most of them are water-based paints too!
In the end, the final coat/finish is what you personally find acceptable and how well you do on previos coats. Generally however, the final coat should be absolutely fine without polishing out. A good polishing compound WILL give it back its gloss after flatting but in my view, there is no substitute for a final coat, untouched, as far as standing the ravages of weather. Just wash and wax regular thats all. I guess one could argue as to whether Rustoleum is a better or worse paint than factory standard but it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if VW had used Rustoleum from new.
One thing all 'rollers' will back me on is that the really old vans actually soaked up water - the paint had become porous to an extent. Mine certainly had. When you see the difference with a rain-soaked Rustoleum finish and see how rapidly it sheds water, its a reassuring site. You can also, give it extra coats in subsequent years after routing out areas of rust you thought you'd dealt with and hadn't - a pain if you've spent £2k on a spray job.
