Yes I realised that when I removed it and found the leg of the letter P under the rail,,, could I ask why you used the silicone though.
I did save the very neat little blue vw logos from the doors though.......

it stuck the rail on while I drilled it through for the rivet
with hind sight I could have drilled it and marked the hole
but I guess the brain was not in gear that day.

To stop any water leaking into the roof through the rivet holes surely?

This is a really interesting thread thanks for posting all the pictures on here, also gives me some idea of how much work mine may need in the future.
My roof looks rusty above the windscreen and now i know the reason why!

Well, last dirty job,2nd coat sealering the undersides of the repairs,2 full tins used  this was the worst side
Image
will have to black it after the painting then dynax it
Image
this is the underside of the nsr 1/4 and showing the inside of the lower panal which the bumper ends bolt through
Image
the hitop is now well and truly secured and should be good for a lot of years. the front has snugged down nice and is well bonded, I have run a small skim of fine filler over the top to cover the rivit holes and stuff, so when painted you will see a definate line where the roof finnishes then a small bit of metal roof then the screen rubber ,I think it will look better than it was.

Nah, it will be just like any other van out there, some will shine more, and some will be a different colour and some will be propper posh with dg windows ..... but this will be good underneath .
anyhow its gone to paint , doors and stuff off so lets see what its going to look like in brienze blue  :rofl
thge front of the roof is mint and will look nice, the rear join was badly hacked and this is not as visible I chose to bond and rivit and then seam seal over the join. I could have filled it and such but given that there is some flexibility here I reckoned it would as likely crack and cause more hassle in the future,

front panal just got a coat of protection as I reblasted it
