Here's my pile of woes.

It's been up since 1954, it's full of woodworm and the felt on the roof is knackered.

Heard those magic words from the wife yesterday "Why don't you build yourself a garage?" After me beaming for a few days when I've been able to work outdoors on the van in the dry she asked why I didnt do more of it as it obviously keeps me happy. Rain and cold was the answer from me - I am definitely a fair weather vehicle mechanic.

We've already turned the bottom 20ft of the back garden into OSP for 2 vehicles but I was under the impression that a garage in its place was a step too far, as along with the kit form garden shed I've also got a basement full of my stuff already and further mans toys would be taking the mickey. Now got to work out if I can afford it and should I have a 2 post lift inside it?

Yes and yes are the correct answers  You've got permission from the mem'sahib so crack on!

I'd kill for a post lift in the garage but there's not the headroom, getting one just to lift the bus 2 foot seems a bit daft!

Got the height in my garage, but no lift,
where to get one from?
Anyway, lately been thinking that my van is made for lying under,
seems to be designed with just the right amount of room...

There's an outfit who do the classic car shows and make all that kind of hydraulic stuff for the home mechanic. Z-ramps, 2-post lifts, presses, the lot. They do bundle deals too. Saw them at NAC Stoneleigh last weekend.

Can't remember the name though

Recycled Mahogany shipping crates. 3 phase and single phase power and insulated, metal corry roofs and high enough of the ground to allow a dog or cat underneath and so deter rodents. The sheds are over 20 years old and have been regularly painted with preservative so all the wood is as good as new and big enough to house a tractor and lots of other stuff. And we have the garage
