Too hard on yourself there Ian, You probably didn't think about old fuel when you down-graded to a carb. Its not your fault, we've all got to learn!!

No mate I fitted a 2.1 into a gassed but leaky and blowy 1.9 ... plug and play

Cheers Pete. Interesting that it was getting petrol (I knew this for a fact as I'd removed & watched injectors. This sent me off on the ignition goose chase) but obviously not good petrol or possible not enough pressure due to sucking fumes. I didn't know history of van or how long it had been stood. So if anyone ever gets a similar project, don't assume just pumping gas means it must be something else.
