....all depends what youre looking for in a holiday - scenery, wine, food, stuff for the kids, nice towns, history, peace and quiet, a particular type of campsite, activities, wild camping etc

...tell us more :D

Really a bit of everything - no set needs - done a lot of Brittany / Normandy / Loire in the past, we just enjoy pootling (it is a 1.6diesel van!!) - we are very keen on Cheap (as im tight!!), and keen to give wild camping a go. with 2 kids (ones a toddler) does anyone have experience of wild camping in France with kids - is it feasible?

Weve always done westerly crossings before so the west is where weve been but freinds just moved to kent and @ £65 10 day return it was a no brainer! - Ive heard the east is cold, industrial and boring... is this fair

Also found out about passion france - whats everyones experience???

:ok It's great, we stopped on 5 or 6 places last year all the way between Paris and Italy for the total sum of £22.50. Try doing a search or just look down the forum, there pics there too.

OK all,

What are the bibles for the van when going to France - it would be easy to spend £100 on guides. We have our trusty old lonely planet for the sights, but what about camping guides. Michelin 2010?, All the Aires?, Passion France (think Hulleys made this a yes with his last post)etc etc.

what do we need?

I cant take too many cos it ll affect the performance...

If you're doing France on a budget, All the Aires is an essential.

From late April, we'll start with a couple of UK destinations, then over to France, see a few of the bits we don't know so well - the Pyrenees and SW, primarily (and a big 2cv meet near Orleans in late July) - then Spain/Portugal, Italy. As it turns towards autumn, down the Adriatic & Balkans, seeing mates in Croatia and Belgrade. If politics permits, then through Turkey and winter in Syria/Jordan/Lebanon, before heading back north, round the Baltic states, through Finland, and the midnight sun in northern Scandinavia next year.

Well, that's the rough plan, anyway. It'll probably change.

Always carry a Michelin camping book. You may want a few home comforts like washing facilities and showers. Also occasionally you may not want to cook so a camp site with simple take away food or restaurant is an option. If you have young kids you can pick campsites with play areas. This is only fair for small people cooped up in a van all day. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
:ok
