Just fitted some new magecor 8 mm ht leads.
Suprised at the difference it's made. Had a misfire ever since I've had the van. Was really bad when I found out the plugs were fried, but even after I put new ones in. It still had a slighty annoying misfire at low revs. It's now really smooth. Result.
Now going to up the ante by increasing capacity to 3.5!!
Wahay!!
New shorter pistons and a new longer stroke crank. Block needs a small amount of machining, making room for the big end bolts.
Gas flowed heads and matched manifolds. Standard fuel inj just needs a minor mod on a rolling road, then we're good for 250hp.
Should be fun.
I remember those V6 stroker cranks from years ago when I used to read CCC. What kind of lb.ft or Nm will it put out? You'd better be careful on the loud pedal...

they quote 243ft/lb @3000, 249 bhp@5800 from a rolling road test. Not a huge amount torquewise, but enough to mean sensible use of the loud pedal I agree. Aidan is rebuilding my box with a new crown and pinion, so I wont need to worry about overrevving the engine. Major weakpoint would be the stock 1st and 2nd, i think I've got it right that these can't be uprated. Box could get knackered pdq.
Is it getting SA oiling plates and 7/29 cwp? first gear will be unused on the road, I'd reckon as 243 lb/ft is 330 Nm! That's what MG's modified TDi 5-cylinder is putting out near enough
OK your torque is arriving higher up the rev range, but I'd go easy on 1 and 2. Maybe a switched rev-limiter for 1 and 2 would be a good idea, connected to the gear lever box. Shouldn't be too hard to rig up.

Well I'm guaranteeing it for 12 months, with the 4.14 and oiling plates it should be fine with that power as long as you don't run massively wide and sticky rubber or a competition clutch, leave some give in the system somewhere, it'll probably break a tired CV before the box
All the 12valve F0rd V6's never were known for good fuel consumption, even the 2.9 EFI - the combustion chamber is a poor shape so never did give a good clean burn. It's all history book stuff now.
Going to LPG it? While the heads are off get a full house of "hard" valve seats installed, like Martin Wells "Sealtite" brand (American) as they are high Nickel content, so very good for dry and low-sulphur fuels.

Look at my post about the BLOS lpg carb in Alt. Fuels - there's pics of one fitted to a 2.9i on the ebay shop (not mine) and I think the quoted performance figures are for that engine too. It might run out of breath at 250 bhp though, so you'd have to go for a twin-carb option with twin throttles

Loss of power recently got me poking around the engine. Loss of compression on 1 and 5 doesn't sound at all good:-(
has got quite tappety recently, think it's a case of valve seat recession.
Will have to pull the heads and have a look.
While they're off, I might as well do somat with them. Sending them to Andy Weston in Bromsgrove for a rebuild and some tinkering:-0
Got a spare pair of heads and have Dropped them off at engine shop in Brum. Guy is well respected in Building race engines, so knows his stuff.
Getting skimmed and new unleaded seats. Exhaust ports on these heads are crap and They are being reworked.
Will have to make do with this for now, stroker kit is on the back burner. New eber and other bits more important.
