we should receive our carnet tommorow.......... Its not strictly needed for west africa, but we are planning to travel around and possibly avoid import duty in the gambia. We are travelling through france, spain, morocco, mauritania, senegal and into the gambia. Carnet has cost £780 plus deposits based on van value £4000

apparantly it's foot launched thus no licence required, training costs around a grand and a bit, full rig 5 grand upwards, if you add wheels to the rig you need a licence so wheelchair users etc.. have to

Just heard from Pete this evening.
He has crossed through France and is now in San Sebastian (Northern Spain).
That is bloody good motoring considering they wouldn't of arrived in France until mid Saturday afternoon. Obviously the wind carried them well.

Is that a coffee machine I can see. :)

I cannot believe they could get everything in that van, when it is already full of Pete's tools. Have they managed to fit in the mountain bikes?

Not only the two mountain bikes, but his Honda motorcross bike(hence the slight mod to the wheel carriers to take the Honda wheels),gas cooker and 4.5kg gas, flatscreen tv,several large suitcases,2 x25 litre fuel and 2x25litre water tanks etc.The vehicle has it`s own on-board alternator driven welder (seperate to vehicle alternator) so if anything breaks he can fix it! I`m hoping I don`t get the call "Dad ,can you send a spare *****")

We are just outside malaga. A rest day today, and on the ferry tomorow. 2300 kms sitting at 120kmh. Have met a couple from uk in a 110 landy, going to south africa. We are meeting up with them somewhere near gambia. Will post some pictures soon.

Jealous, love that drive down through morocco / Mauri.

Pete - have you seen that you can't get the transit Visa for Mauri at the border anymore and need to get it at the embassy in Rabat... 8)
