Busman.be is re-manufacturing the jadwagen mount for the winch.

Avoid stainless bolts as they are not as strong as steel bolts. If you are worried about rust then use copperslip

  Collection! that's not the right word at the moment. Vehicle count at the moment - 4 syncros(1 doesn't belong to us it's in storage), 1 diesel syncro on the floor in bits, 2 panel vans, 1 gwagen, my car, pete's work van, and then there is what's in the garages ...
God alone knows because we spent an hour looking for an engine the other day!

This is the best way to fit a winch. Nice and neat and out of the way.

Its a sickness ......... one syncro is not enough ......... and then you start minding other people's syncros

I wouldnt like to try sorting out a tangled mess of cable inside there! let alone doing any maintenance on it.

It is very tidy i agree, but not the most practical solution in my opinion.

Most inconvenient here is the inability to declutch the winch to pull out the wire, apart from that its been trouble free for me.

But it all comes down to how often you feel you will need your winch based on your intended use of your syncro.

No doubt Stewart felt the winch on mine was a must have for his long trip but it was something included 'just in case' he got into difficulty and was not intended for frequent use. He said he only ever needed it once when he got stuck on a beach.

Some of the more 'adventurous' here will be using their winch frequently and in that case i would say that Rogers/Petes arrangement is probably preferable.

Its quite a heavy weight to out- rig on to the van in front of a heavy bull bar which raises further issues.

Finally fitted it and its taken the best part of the weekend to do  The mounting plate is bolted to the front beam at the back like this,

with a really tough nylon spacer to lift it and the front of the mounting plate is bolted to the bullbar mount. It sits 40mm higher than the ones mounted directly on the front beam so should help with clearance and help in deeper mud/water.

I have the next two weekends taken up with off road stuff so i will put it to the test to see if its man enough for the job or if its back to the drawing board. It looks right though.

Thanks for all your input its helped and given me loads of ideas for this way of mounting my winch.

Whats wrong with trying to pull that tree out? That should give it a thorough testing! :)
