sorry for sounding a dunce, what's the water jacket? also, how could i tell if it's the original engine? (i am sure it is). loud and raspy like an old beetle loll.

what sort of things should i service?

i have a water cooled 1.9 too, does that mean that a new water jacket will make it quieter?

the water jacket is part of the heads on a watercooled motor. it replaces the fins found on Aircooled motors. ane jacket wont make it quieter.

try an oil change with some 15 - 40 oil and a new filter.

Sorry for that smartarse crack from a fellow T25-er. Air cooled versus watercooled fads are on a par with Microsoft versus Macs in computers. Bit like religeon or football team loyalty really

sorry about that, i am just learning but keen to learn more all the time about these vehicles, they are so accessible! i have worked on bmws and cooling systems and adjusting valves etc but this is more fun! i would like to learn more about reconditioning the engine to make it nice and quiet and just like new again!
