Well, I would have thought that it's first and foremost a Syncronaut issue, and that John Prescott and Tony Blair would be less interested... :?:

it may be a syncronaut issue but it does reflect on 80-90 as a whole, and as someone who through laziness hasn't yet sent his syncronauts application in it does make me wonder if i really want to join.

I think it is time that some people start to think hard about all this.
These comitee members spend a lot of their time and effort in organising
events and other behind the seen activitis. They dont get paid or any
other compensation for this (apart from abuse now and then)

Thanks for the comments of support and encouragement Russel - it's a shame that issues like this drag on so we can't focus on our job.

Sooooooooo want to post "yeah, so fork orf".......

Come to a meet and you'll see we're all supremely lovely. This is a very contentious and sensitive issue, and I think a lot of people are feeling attacked here. It's a basic law of human nature - if someone feels attacked, they either defend, or counter-attack, and when people are posting all sorts of stuff everywhere, mostly repeating the same things but using different words, it's very easy to become disenchanted by it........there's no emotion or intonation in text, and Jenny is a teacher, it's bound to show sometimes.....just remember to put your chair on the desk before you leave......

So you're a committee member then...? That attitude towards non-members is even more difficult to understand. Obviously you are not looking to recruit new members then. Or maybe you just didnt see my post seeing as how you didnt reply.

Politics has been the downfall and demise of many a good club. I know Im not a member but Im planning on joining. I couldnt give a toss what happens behind the scenes so long as its a well maintained club and I can have a laugh in it. It is supposed to be about fun, right? If you want my 2 cents though, have a look at how Type 2 Ireland is operated. There is no politics whatsoever simply because its free to join and we cast public votes and try and find out general interest about everything becore it goes ahead. True there is moderators, but theyre changed on a regular basis. Everyone who posts a reasonable amount gets a look in if they want it. Anyway, paying clubs can work too and often do, but the "Youre not a member so this doesnt concern you" attitude does not. Anyway, rant over! Im a nice guy in person, really! 8)

Sorry, as I said earlier I am looking to get a T25 syncro in the hopes of learning how to drive off road without destroying it. I thought a club would provide this opportunity. There seems to a huge rift down the middle of syncronauts...how is a prospective member supposed to know which side to join? Do you get ignored or abused by the other side if you make the wrong choice?

I just think that an elected committee member would be representative of the club as a whole (thats what they are there for isnt it?) and therefore that speaking to potential members like that is not encouraging.

Clearly this thread is going round in circles and it seems like i've already upset a couple of people....so im just going to give up.

Anyone know where I can get a V8 lightweight?

so im just going to give up

Then regretably those few unhappy dissenters will claim you as a victory.

Since Syncronauts started 70 members have signed on and nobody has left or been chucked out.

Most members are involved for the meetings and the driving in like minded company; thats whats best about the whole thing.

These forums leave a lot to be desired and some people take out their frustrations and bad days by kicking the virtual cat. Its poor behaviour and unpleasant when it happens to you but if you stick around you get to find out whos most likely to get short and treat them accordingly.

It would be great if people were even mannered all of the time but it doesnt happen out there and its not going to on here either.

There is a current difference of opinion it seems about a particular subject, but I would not call it factioned; though it would appear that that is entirely the aim of some of the resultant posts.

Mr Big,

There is not a rift right down the middle of the Syncronauts and even if there were, quite how would it affect your potential membership? There is no 'side' to join, the idea is to avail yourself of off-road events for Syncros, with all the trappings of organisation that means that you just have to book in advance and turn up on the day. Then follow a few rules that are to a large extent common sense, pitch in where necessary, take commands from course officials and drive safely. All the rest is done for you, and involves a fair bit of long term planning as well as the arrangements for both days (as some regularly travel long distances to attend, our formal events are whole weekends).

The MSA permits and liability insurance, membership enrolments, planning, site negotiations, finance and forward budgeting etc. are matters for the committee. We have to have a constitution and a committee to meet the above obligations and we aim to work as close to that as possible; nothing is perfect and apart from wanting to drive Syncros off-road, develop those skills and enjoy the company of others who do too, we may well have little else in common with one another. But that's what a small band of us envisaged less than 2 years ago and that's what has come to pass. And a lot more: excellent technical support, parts sourcing and in many cases, practical help too.
You must look at what we do and decide for yourself whether you want to join, the technical and event website as well as the forum are there anyway, with a lot of work having gone into those areas as well. There seems to be no reason to join unless you want to attend an event, and only then can you decide if its been worth it - or not.

I'm sure Jenny's remark was aimed to point out to Syncro16 that she was responding to Martin who started the thread, who's a member discussing a club issue. Syncro16 isn't a member, unless this is someone posting under a pseudonym, and jumping into the middle of a discussion when you don't have a vested interest nor are posting something that hasn't been said before, nor are being particularly constructive could be construed as provocative - so a simple question asking how this concerns them shouldn't be taken out of context.

If I was not a member of an organisation that had a committee to represent members and to run that body, and walked into one of their meetings when there happened to be some who were members questioning the committee with an officer making a reply, and then shouted from the back row something impertinent, I think it would be ignored or I'd be asked what my interest was. I suppose saying I'm just someone looking in with a view to joining wouldn't cut much ice, and icy would likely describe the looks I'd get as well. Rightly! Biding my time and asking a question about joining the club, or what its aims and objectives are, or how its constututed is of course, a different matter, and it would be obvious the questioner was a potential new member.

We seem to attract a steady stream of new members without tirelessly canvassing for them, so we must be doing something right and after all, this is supposed to be fun, which invariably we all find it is. Particularly, convivial nights around the campfire and helping others with some spannerwork are features of our events - we take a few risks with forward planning and organisation to keep it interesting, so there is never a cast iron guarantee that everything will run tickety boo... but we all try and make the most of the opportunity the framework gives us. And that is how we see it I think, creating a framework. Its entirely at your own risk to join, and we certainly can't guarantee total satisfaction. With all the likely outcomes with sites, people, vehicles, camping, prevailing weather and activites to make happen, we do expect a reasonable attempt at a positive attitude from all, else such meetings become untenable and a bore.

The vast majority of our 70 members are not overly concerned with politics, committees or organisation, but as with any club constituted like ours, some want to make a contribution and earn the right to serve on the committee, have more say and further the cause - which is mainly to ensure we can continue to enjoy meeting up and testing ourselves and our vehicles over interesting and challenging terrain.

I think we have a well balanced committee with good people that work hard to ensure that decisions are taken, matters are dealt with and events happen. That is what it is for; not to create a virtual target for all and sundry to take potshots at. We aim to work to a constitution broadly laid down by the MSA and further developed by us after consultation with them. We do.

To the Chairman. Well said Clive. A response like this demonstrates a very even and fair mind and committee. Long may it continue. My vote goes with the existing committee, I think its unlikely anyone else could do a better job. Nuf said

ok, ive had enough now!

lets get one or two things straight,
1.Club80-90 and Club80-90 syncronauts are NOT the same thing. They are sister clubs, one born from the other, Club80-90 has no committee, and is a internet based group of members with an interest in the T25 as a whole, every model. Club80-90 Syncronauts is a "real" club, with a committee, a constitutuion and rules and everything, born out of CLub80-90 for those with the need to use , abuse and learn about the T25 Syncro ( and quite possibly other model syncros) .

2. These are the Club80-90 forums, NOT the Club80-90 Syncronauts Forums. The Syncro section is not the forum of the Syncronauts ( it's just where they hang out, so to speak) Some people are have trouble grasping the fact that being a member of the CLub80-90 forum is NOT the same as being a member of Club80-90 nor being a member of Club80-90 syncronauts - three entirely different things.

3. I banned MG, he had been asked not to take up the Club80-90 Syncronauts despute on the Club80-90 forums, which he agreed to on the phone. He then did exactly the oposite, and posted all sorts of untruths about lots of Club80-90 members, I banned him from the Club80-90 forums. I did NOT remove his membership from either Club80-90 nor Club80-90 Syncronauts

4. I told Diamond Hell the same - he did not carry on to attack members of Club80-90 , there fore he was NOT banned. Should that change then he will also get the same .

Imo , as jen said, typed message are easily taken the wrong way, and everyone at some point takes them differently to the way they were meant, however there are a few out there who do tend to sitr things up intentionally, posting to get a reaction, or just plainly under misunderstanding how things are.

If Mg had stuck to his word, and not posted what he did, he wouldnt have been banned from these forums, it was his choice.

Mr Big,

It's an unfortunate truth that you are looking to join Syncronauts at what has been a testing time for a club of this age and size. Undeniably there has been an unpleasant exchange of views between one individual and a couple of others which has resulted in the recent spat. It is fair to say though that the undercurrent that led to this was long running and now that one of said parties is no longer a participant on this forum that should be the end of it.

I've been knocking around here for a bit but don't often find time to post a huge amount - it has however proved an excellent resource for me when purchasing my Syncro in Germany 12 months ago, for general advice regarding the inevitable questions that are likely to ensue and also for discovering what your new 'toy' is capable of. That is this forum's purpose and it generally serves this purpose very well - I'll vouch for that personally.

So, don't get the wrong idea about any poncy factions ruling the roost, don't be put off by what seems like an overtly formal structure and don't be put off by prickly responses to recent questions - a few on here a still a little tender after last weeks bruising...

Only one real way of telling what sort of club this is, put a post up with the questions you've got about your prospective syncro purchase and see what sort of response you get - not gonna cost you anything is it?
