We're doing a trip of Europe in our T25 1982 German Import diesel 1600cc orange transporter, and was a bit worried about the hill situation.

I have run a 1.6 n/a diesel westy and I would suggest running a separate switch from the radiator fan to the dash to override the thermostat to preempted a possible over heating situation!

Keep an eye on the heat of the engine when hitting big hills.

Make sure the engine oil is changed before you leave.

If you think the engine is likely to over heat, put the heaters on and if they go cold, stop.

Ours went up in 2nd gear, just, and when we got there, a guy in a Czech 1600 air cooled high top was already there. Saw quite a few T25's going up hills, just take it steady and don't worry. You can always stop at the top and have a cuppa and admire the view. That's what we do. off to the Alps and Crotia for the summer, a month bumbling around in a camper Excellent!!!!!!!!!!

Regards, Graham
We went over the alps on our way to Croatia last year.
Had to stop to allow cooling penty of times but we made it....

its all good guys, like everyone said take it easy, been through the alps in mine 2lt a/cooled a bit hairy at times mainly due to other traffic van coped no prob, go at your own speed, the lorries are not canning it up the brenner pass either!

If your going to croatia there is an easier way than over the alps, go dover calais, I'd go Dunkirk - cheaper! the over to Lyon head down between the alps and massif central toward Chambrey / Grenoble, there is a tunnel near here that takes you into Italy think its the frejus tunnel expensive cost me 43 euro a couple of years ago but much les strees on the van and of course much warmer out of the mountains

Going down to Spain this year probably going down to Bordeaux then over to San Sebastian, anyone done this? any suggestion of must see's, booking the ferry this week going from Portsmouth - Le Havre its only about £200 going on 2-8-11 see you all over there!

I did all of this in a nomal petrol van, see all piccys, 12,000 miles, fantastic fun.....

I learnt a lot about the van in that time.

It is key to always stop to not let it over heat. Its also key to always have spare coolent and water with you to keep it topped up.

Enjoy
