I was thinking about getting bigger tyres on the van, but I still have the stock 14" wheels.
Would it not be safer to get some bigger wheels from somewhere (i.e 16" wheels) & wrapping the large size tyres round those?

and it never really sees more than 60mph anyway, this is at 3600ish rpm (with the 145 tyres on)will do a consumption check with the larger wheels/tyres on next week!!! the van is a high top california part loaded...
Careful! You'd be in danger of overgearing it so speed drops off markedly at the slightest incline.. and I really don't think a quick check over a week of the mpg, unless you do a 1000 miles or more the same every week, is long enough to be of much value. You need long term figures without a break before and after every change... but I've been saying that here for quite a while and just making a nuisance of myself

Hopefully we'll have a chart up tomorrow sometime of a new AAZ installation that's just done about 900 miles with all fuel recorded against mileometer... that wll give a datum for future modifications

this is by setting the trip checking mileage and brimming the old girl obviously without chucking diesel on the road...
Fair do's, brimming is good. Trip works well for that system but you can easily lose long term trend - if write down mileometer as well on fuel VAT invoice, whatever happens, whether you brim it or not, you have a proper long term record, that can always be picked back up if you mess up. Even if you can't 't write mileometer on every invoice, keep them, this system still works fine for when you have time to do some sums or drop them into a spreadsheet (will put download link on Wiki asap)
