Car manufacturers could make a car/van/ truck that brakes or decelerates when it senses an object closer than is reasonable for the speed, probably pretty easy in a modern car with all the ele tronic control it has.

I suspect the doom brigade would say it was dangerous because people would drive as fast as they can and let the vehicle set the distance.

Aparently the lines on the edge of the road that make a noise are no longer in fashion because truck drivers use them as an audio guide so they don't need to look at the road.

Many high end modern cars already have this. Its used when their "adaptive" cruise control is on. They will both decelerate & accelerate keeping a set distance from the vehicle in front. Many also have warning systems that activate if you wander from your lane and there is a vehicle next to you.

I guess in time all vehicles will have it.

My pet hate i the number of cars here in London drivign around at night with front DRLs and nothing a thte back. The Daylight Running Lights are so bright (to be seen in daylight!!) that they're blinding and unfocussed at night

I've seen one of these and like the idea, though I wonder about it's legality.

I'd like one for tail gaiters

I've got one of those but not fitteed it yet - from the rear it shows a 'Warning Triangle' and also supposedly projects a 'safe distance' line although I doubt it'll be powerful enough for that judgin by the similar item i have to each side of my bicycle

The Qashqai we have has auto everything including brakes...But the lights catch me out if they get put on manual. It has permanent LED running lights on that are nearly as bright as my campervans headlight as I can testify driving to Tesco with just the running lights

Have exact same issue on new Citroen...the DRLs light up drive as i reverse out at night, and often get caught out driving down our (well lit) street. Kinda now get in habit of always putting lights on...not so easy for wife to grasp (we had full auto lights on our previous Renault and you do get used to be being molly-coddled!)

I followed something similar the other day. I couldn't work out if it was a permanently on dash/reversing cam feed or something?
