many thanks for the great tip I installed this yesterday and its all working as per your guide.
W.C.J many thanks for the relay advice and the inline fuse much appreciated.
-----------------------
I do have one problem since the installation, my propex is not working. There is no power getting to the propex.
My install differed slightly in the wiring colors, im not sure if this is because its an earlier van (1981)
(Please ignore the grey wiring I had to extend my wiring because of the propex - photos below)
MY 3 wire connector has the following connections:
2 black wires that I connected straight to the -ve connection (female spade) on the charger. I had no Brown wire so Im guessing that the 2 black ones are Vehicle earth - no idea why there is 2??
Red/Yellow - Leisure battery feed
Red/Black - Main battery feed
As per your photos I have these wires now run to the new charger, there is another set of wires that also come out of the plastic sleeve and I sure they ran power to the old ebber, (the plastic connection is still attached). This is the wiring that was now providing power to the propex, since I installed the charger there is not power.
Ran multimeter test.
Red/Yellow - reading 12.09
Red/Black - 12.00
Red wire to propex no power
I then ran a wire from the Red/Yellow to the red wire on the propex connection and the propex fired up fine.
So can I just take power from this connection to the Propex? Will it be affected when the charger runs? And why has power that supplied the propex died?

I hope my explanation makes sense. I have checked the fuses and there fine.

I'll second that, just fitted the same charger following Dave's instructions and all is working fine, not that I ever doubted that it would !
Only one question, what rating fuse should be used with this set up ?
Thanks again.

Re: Westy Battery Charging
This seems like a very sensible mod to do to ensure both batteries are topped up. One question thou can someone confirm the fuse rating that needs to be fitted to the inline fuse holder please??????? Many thanks.

Re: Westy Battery Charging
30amp fuse would be the norm (standard split charge wiring) but as people have reported, on a very flat battery a 30amp can sometimes blow. If you have an uprated system (heavier relay and wiring) then a 50amp fuse is the most it will need to be with a 90amp/hour alternater.
