Thurso, £35 per hour (+VAT). And that's not me finding the cheapest in town, just the going rate.
Any advance?

I would never recommend this Garage to a friend. They quote cheap then cut corners. A most unpleasant experience !J-Lo wrote:Fudgy666 wrote:J-Lo wrote:I've got 'Hans' booked in with East Dulwich Campers. I'll pass on a review of the service.
That'd be useful, that's my local VW garage so it'd be nice to know what they are like.
Fingers crossed they get you sorted and back out on the road soon
Hi. I've just had the camper back. It's difficult to say that I'm 'pleased' with the work, because a lot of it was essential work that you can't notice from looking at the van, or from the inside. But I'm told it was all necessary. They weren't great on comms, and nearly didn't return it in time, but I would probably use them again. My invoice is attached if people are interested in what they charge for what.

Re: New User (with questions!)
My son bought his 1980 air cooled Devon 6 years ago and it has been an up and down experience and still is. They are old vans and need constant attention and money spent on them.
Keep costs down by learning and doing it yourself. Spend a lot of time getting to know the mechanicals and underneath your van, the more you know the better.
Do all maintenance yourself, learn, learn.
Very few garages can maintain your van as its old technology and garages and mechanics these days rely on diagnostic electronics.
These vans like to be used, leave it unused for a while and they will not start or run well.
Modern petrol contains ethanol which rots fuel lines and gums up carbs. Change your fuel lines soon.
Get a good manual like Bentley, Haynes ok but not as good.
If you have to use a garage, choose the right one and be specific about work you want done.
These vans are not the load it up, switch on and off you go sort of vehicles, they need constant looking after.

Re: New User (with questions!)
Always come here and ask.
First if possible.
Always provide the garage with the parts, you have bought from a quality supplier, do not let them fit anything that you have not bought.
As said learn learn learn.
If you can't
You will pay

Sorry, I missed this thread earlier when you asked about experiences of East Dulwich Campers. I used them when I first got the van and came to the same view.. could not recommend; quite disorganised, forgot things, under quoted then over charged.. They weren't a total disaster but it was not a great experience and haven't been back.
