Help! Renewed the blower heater under dashboard, had nomal problems with removing and popping open housing to get at motor. Done & replaced. The problem i now have is replacing the old resistor that has burnt out due to the labor motor put it under.i have searched but cant find a replacement that gives me confidence in the replacement! In short my bus is a 88. 3speed blower, the part # (looks like,is worn) 171905051 I do know its not made anymore & i cant believe the run around I've had trying to replace this resistor. Please can you help so i can put my bus back together again .. Thank you

Thank you for that info linked to VW Heritage parts, i talked to Andy Heading from vwh; who found me that part,then said its been superseded by part# 059905109 @£59.28! (Thats fine) He then proceeded to say , he didn't think it would work.I had my card in han and was ready to pay, you can see why i was a tad confused. . You can change the fan easily by open the heater and remove the two screws and change the heater Fan.

The old foam on the flaps that open and close had perished and was turning to dust when rubbed - meaning you are probably inhaling when fan in use.
I removed all that and replaced with new fire retardant foam. Also removed the heater matrix thingy and cleaned about 2 tonne of dead flies away!

In my honest opinion, a PWM controller (DC Motor controller) is far better and arguably safer (ask Zaphira owners) than just soaking up excess current through a resistor.

Easy enough to fit.

Shear bolts - mole grips with sharp teeth has worked for me .Or cut a slot to take a large screwdriver.
