Started on the bodywork. Pleased so far.

The ali bit of the outer fridge vent was quite tarnished so I tried to polish it up. Looked lousy so I sprayed it with primer and nicked the bloke across the road's chrome spray. Quite pleased with the result. There looks like a couple of scratches on it in the pic but there aren't any on the vent, they're just marks where I washed the dust off it.

It makes me want to do mine but my body work has bubbles along the panels and i dread to think what is underneath!!

A little tip (very old one): Use a magnet to test for metal or filler beneath the paint. You could also just chip a bit of the bubbled paint off to see how bad it is underneath then touch in afterwards if you don't want to proceed. It isn't always as bad as it looks you know. Good luck anyway.

Just taken the following pics. this is after one coat of combicolour, a quick flat with 400 wet and dry and then another coat of combicolour. Hope the rest of the van comes out this good Pictures not too clear 'cos I just took 'em and its dark so I had those lousy low energy bulbs illuminating the garage.

Well, rain stopped play but I got most of the bits back on. Need to sort out the stripes (British Leyland Damson Red?) and a few minor 'indescretions'. Very pleased with the transformation. I can now leave the paint to fully harden for a few weeks/months and then flat and polish back a bit at a time.

Just seen this thread. Very nice work indeed. Like the 'bumper' below the sliding door. How does that fit on?

Thank you. Makes the hard work worth it. The 'bumper/side bar' fits by welding two bars to the long rail, these are pushed into the jacking point and secured with a small 10mm headed screw. Not sure if I like them now so may be removing them. Probs try painting them first though.

They were originally chromed but didn't look right somehow. Then they started pitting hence the silver paint on them. If you can manage to get them collected you can have them. They'd need a bit of work on the welds though. Never did get them tidied up

Thanks for that. The fridge vent needs doing again already and this time I will spray some lacquer over the chrome spray. Didnt take too kindly to being washed off with detergent
