Part two lol Fuel filters. I didnt realise till i took these pics there are two filters in my van. Is this normal?

This one is tucked in the engine bay. And looks quite mucky i think.


This one is underbody near the fuel tank.

The hoses on the fuel pump still have spring clips so might be the originals. (on my list to change)
I have given my van back to mechanic who is going to clean the carb and change the fuel filters and see if this solves the cutting out issue.
The problem is i dont know what is ok/normal and whats not but i suppose that is where the learning comes in

The only inline filter should be the one near the tank (which looks cacked up in that photo) Those clips 'O' clips and are tightened up using 'special' pincers.

yes remove the engine bay filter completely

okaydokey i will take hose i have to mechanic and if he has not already fitted filter in engine bay i will ask him not to. Stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea with referred mechanics lol need to tread carefully. I did say i would transport her away because he was so sick of her (i was very prepared to)which seemed to make a difference and he is being very nice now. (horrible unhelpful person before hand) Local vw man is booked for weeks. I had aimed for volksfling at end of may but now im aiming for volksfling end of august as my target. Who knows next year i might (with any luck) get to some meetings south of the border and meet some of the good folks who have helped me. Thank you all very much.

looking back on thread and wanted to thank Cruz for pics they were certainly not boring. Im on a learning curb and pics are brill for me as the technical jargon tends to go over my head unfortunately. (not forever i hope ) Cheers cruz

Remanufatured just fitted so still looking very shiny lol. Sounding good too which is the important thing though my ocd prefers shiny

I have as well. Exactly same as you. Just came on to forum to check and hey presto!

So why was this done? Is it only coincidence and we've got the only two? Doubtful.

doesnt the red temp light in the middle of the temperature gauge flash when you first tun the ignition on, while the carb heater is working ? then it will also flash when the coolant is low ??

Yes - If it comes on when running it indicates low coolant.

Loads of folks have had the two filters fitted in the past.I think previous owners fitted them in the engine bay,not knowing about the one near the fuel tank.

So why was this done?
